Booking Through Thursday - Meme

I’ve seen this series of questions floating around the ‘net the last few days, and thought it looked like a good one for us! (My answers are in parenthesis.)

What was the last book you bought?

(Sunset by Karen Kingsbury--I must find out how the Baxters are doing.)

Name a book you have read MORE than once

(The Holy Bible and just recently, The Justice by Angela Hunt)

Has a book ever fundamentally changed the way you see life? If yes, what was it?

(Yes, the Bible!)

How do you choose a book? eg. by cover design and summary, recommendations or reviews

(I look at the cover and read the blurb and title. Once in awhile, I read a book recommended by a friend or a reviewer. In addition, I have favorite authors I follow. )

Do you prefer Fiction or Non-Fiction?

(I have always loved fiction best!)

What’s more important in a novel: beautiful writing or a gripping plot?

(The plot--the story--is the most important part.)

Most loved/memorable character (character/book)

(This is one of those questions that I will think on and reevaluate as the day wears on. Whenever I read a good book, I'm left with memories of characters, so there are many. I will mention the last memorable character--a ventriloquist's dummy, George.)

Which book or books can be found on your nightstand at the moment?

(Rhapsody in Red by Donn Taylor is the book I currently reading. I start a book and keep at it until I've finished. I seldom read more than one at a time.)

What was the last book you’ve read, and when was it?

(I finished by George by Wesley Stace on October 6th.)

Have you ever given up on a book half way in?
(Yes, just recently. It is so awful that I simply could not finish it. Obviously, I won't review that one!)

  1. I can't believe I forgot the Bible! When I read the question (has a book ever fundamentally changed the way you see life?), my mind automatically jumped to fiction. But yes, the Bible has also changed my life.

  2. I used to be a one-at-a-timer too until the last year or so. These days, I'm usually in the middle of two or three.

  3. I'm in awe - I'm still struggling to get through the Bible a first time!

I usually stick to one book at a time too. If it's a good one, I won't want to pick up anything else.

  4. I also read one book at time usually. I am currently reading "8 Sandpiper Way" by Debbie Macomber who is my all time favorite author.

  5. I have never read more than one book at a time...never even heard of it!
And, that "ain't" you, my friend, at the end of my post!! don't ya see her name in purple, to match her good-lookin' figure in that purple bathing suit??
Remembering that I am 70 (and dang near 71), can you even start to imagine how I look in a BATHING SUIT....loose-hanging skin, butt waaay down below where it should be...boobs folling the butt...little pot belly sticking out front....ooooo, myyyy!! IT IS NOT A PRETTY SITE but I'm not missing ANYTHING on this fabulous trip so............

  6. I didn't say the Bible, but my answer was a Christian non-fiction book.

I also put the plot before beautiful writing.

    Good answers Sally!

  7. I am half-way through Sunset. :-)

True, all the beautiful writing in the world can't make up for lack of plot.

  8. Morning sweet Sally!! Thanks for popping in this morning to see me. I'm sure you do know about the hurricanes. We've been so blessed in the time we've lived here not to have had one. But each year people will say, "this year will be a big one!". Well, hopefully our little island will come back stronger with God's help.

I wish I had more time to read!! I do love it but let other things get in the way. I am trying to read a short book and when I finish it I'll have to post about it!

Be a sweetie & I want to do Blue Mondays with you!!

  11. Hi! Thanks for visiting my blog. I can't read more than one book at a time either or it gets confusing. Enjoyed reading your blog. I'll be back.

  12. I'm usually angry when I have to put a book aside because I just didn't like it or couldn't get into it - I just feel cheated by whoever (or whatever) made me pick it up in the first place.

  13. I used to read a book through even if I didn't care for it just because I thought I didn't want to "give up". I don't feel I have time to read books I don't enjoy. I wish I had more time to read althought I try to read a bit each evening before I go to bed. I seem to get myself into other things and run out of time in the evenings..or I get too sleepy.
I do love a good book though!

Hi Sally, I spend some much of my time on the computer that I can only read one book at a time..I am currently reading "Grace Will Lead Me Home" by Robin Givens...this book is about her strong faith in God and being a survivor of her volatile marriage to Mike Tyson..I like to read about people and their real life challenges..Have a good week-end. 15. Another lover of books I see! i enjoyed reading your list!

You asked which ideas I might use for pumpkins...we are going to try the pot pourri one and Grace and I are going to make a little pumpkin village. She tried a tiny pumpkin and did a wonderful job...turning it into a little house. She wants us to do 3 or 4 sizes of pumpkins now.

  16. I have so many authors that I read everything they write...that I had to make a spread sheet to keep track...so many of them change the cover and trick me into thinking I hadn't read that one....now I keep close track..and keep track of when their next book is coming out. My hubby laughs at how many pages there are and how complicated it is...it practically needs it's own zip code!

  17. I've always got at least three or four books going at once. It does make for a lot of mental chaos sometimes, but I just figure life is too short to read books one at a time!

  19. I haven't read anything except for class books in so long that I've missed out on fun books. I go to bed thinking about knowledge management solutions. ;)
