In a small Southern town there was a nativity scene that showed great skill and talent had gone into creating it. One small feature bothered me. The three wise men were wearing fire fighter helmets. Totally unable to come up with a reason or explanation, I left.
At a "Quick Stop" on the edge of town, I asked the lady behind the counter about the helmets. She exploded into a rage, sanpping, "You Yankees never do read the Bible!"
I assured her that I did, but I simply couldn't recall anything about helmets being worn in the Bible. She jerked her Bible from behind the counter and ruffled through
some pages, and finally jabbed her finger at a passage.
Pointing to a verse, she said, "See, it says right here,'The three wise man came from afar.'"
That is funny! Goes to show how the different dialects can change the interpretaion of something.
ReplyDeleteI love the way you get messages across with humor. Thanks for sharing.

Love the cartoon!
ReplyDeleteOk I am from the South and that was hilarious!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm from the South, too, and I laughed and am still laughing! LOL!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was at FSU, and one of our Deep South friends came to visit years ago, he asked another of our FSU friends if he had seen "The Dape." Mind you, we were all speech majors. SO my FSU friend, said, "The what?" And our other friend said, "The Dape. The Dape. You know the movie about the great white shark???" LOL! And I've got other tales like it, so yes, I love yours! LOL!
XO,
Sheila :-)
I too am Southern by the grace of God and I thought it was funny too. I also liked the cartoon. But then I like any kind of humor. I was born and raised in Florida. The scenery looks familiar. Thanks for dropping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteWe were all speech majors present with the exception of my legal-eagle hubby! ;-)
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila
Oh man - I should have see that one coming. I no longer live in the "Proper Southern State"...where I live now, they have this annoying tradition...
ReplyDeleteSanta comes through the neighborhoods on a fire truck - sirens at full throttle - and he throws candy out into the streets for the neighborhood kids to run out and scoop up. Now mine you... they don't have the streets blocked off, so cars are driving behind them and towards them, trying to get to their destinations...dodging sugar crazed children. Only in LA
Thank you for the smile, as always dear Sally!
ReplyDeleteI just have to get myself together so I can participate in Blue Monday! I love blue and love your posts so why not? : ) I will soon...
