He really did not like to use them; he much preferred his over-sized ashtray that sat right next to his comfortable easy chair. He gave me two small ashtrays, and this is the second one.
This little ceramic ashtray has a pretty Pink rose right in the center. The gold trim has been worn away in several places. There used to be a label on the back, but it's long gone.
The spots you see are not dirt; they are from wear and tear. This is an oldie, probably from the 1950s or before. It's special to me because it was given to me by my father. He was a man's man, but he loved this little, feminine, pretty ashtray. This is proof positive that Real Men like flowers too! Happy Pink Saturday!

Hi Sally, That's sweet that your Daddy liked that 'girly' ashtray... Wonder why men and women have been SO categorized through the years?????? At least some of that has turned around. I love to see men in gorgeous pink dress shirts.. You NEVER used to see that!!!!

Good morning Sally, who says men can't love fine things. My son is crazy about antique Nippon dishes and vases. That is my son that I posted last Sat. in the pink shirt. He is as manly as one can get. So your dad had good taste. The little ashtray is so pretty.

ReplyDeleteThis pretty ashtray could almost make me want to start smoking - but not quite. Seems like I don't see as many ash trays as I used to. Back in the 50s everybody had ashtrays in their houses whether they smoked or not. It was always there in case a guest wanted to smoke. Hubby and I had neither one ever smoked, but we always had a couple of ashtrays sitting around.

I love it, Sally! And we have something else in common. My dad was a man's man, but he loved beautiful things, too. He loved Haviland china, and he insisted that they use their good china every day! LOL! His mother's had Haviland and so did my mother. So Mama said they went through several sets. ;-) Daddy would use airplane glue to fix them, Sally!

ReplyDeleteYes, real men do like flowers too. My wife, knowing I like Azaleas gave me a large,pink one for Valentine's Day. It's beautiful. I like your dad's ashtray but I don't like smoking at all and never have. However, I realize that others do. As you would say, "To each his own."

Sally, I'm so glad you have things that belonged to your father. My father had a favorite ashtray, too. This one is so pretty. My father would have been attracted to a blue one. Blue was his favorite color.

Real men do like flowers. That proves it. My man is photo editing a picture he took of a clump of daffodils on his computer as I write this. He takes lots of pictures of flowers!
