Ole Ole

Johnny and I love Mexican food, and Ole Ole is our favorite place to get it. When we move, we will miss this local eatery. We went a few days ago, and I took my camera.

We've been coming to this place so long, we don't even need to look at the menu. We know what we want.

Johnny gets two enchiladas, one beef and one chicken. Notice his cute Florida Marlins (baseball)  shirt. The salsa doesn't burn and the chips are thin and crispy. Of course, the platters come with rice and beans, and we always drink iced tea.

I get the special crab enchiladas. They come stuffed with lump crabmeat. Ole Ole won an award for this dish, and oh! is it ever good. (You may remember that I love crab. Of course you do.)

The place is decorated in a typical Mexican decor with a little twist. I had to work hard to avoid getting customers in the pictures.

Murals are all over the walls. Look at this one over the door.

Yep, we'll miss this place. What eating place would you miss the most if you moved?

  1. Hmmm I'll have to think for a second...I Think I would miss Hershey Farm...a local smorgasboard favorite. We only go to this restaurant for special occasions and with coupons but we love it.

  2. Looks like a great place - I can see why you'll miss it. Mexican food is my favorite, but up here in the North Country there aren't that many to choose from, although there are lots of good Italian and Asian places. But since I also love crab, the thing I'd miss most would be the Maryland-style crab cakes that most restaurants up here make. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it!

  3. Mmm crab! Our very last restaurant meal before we moved, was in a local Mexican place with mom and stepdad. The restaurant that I will miss the very most, is India Garden. We went there for the farewell dinner with my dad and his wife. My father and I had always enjoyed their lunch buffet. My daughter and hubby also enjoyed many a meal there. While I am sure there is an Indian place somewhere near our new home, I will always hold India Garden in my heart. On one of my last visits, I said just that to the waiter. He looked at me sort of funny!

  4. If I were in Florida, I'd miss those crab enchiladas... for sure!

but I'm in Texas... I'd miss "Texas Pride"... home of the best BBQ in Texas... it actually made it on to that HGTV show... Dives, Diners and Drive Ins... (I think that's the name). I'd miss their delicious babyback ribs...

now i feel like eating ribs Sally... and it's not even 7am yet!

    have a beautiful day!

  5. Oh, goodness, my DH would love this place. He is a big Mexican food lover. I guess the place I'd miss most would be the Family Fish House. I love seafood and they have the best Fried Catfish and crab legs you could want.

  6. Hi Sally. Its looks like a great place for eating out. Btw, in our language (Malaysian) Ole Ole means 'gift' or 'souvenir'..i was a little bit surprised when i saw the title..i thought it was about a souvenir..
    :-)

    Lots of luv,

  7. Well, it's been more than 20 years, but I STILL miss Joe Allen's Pit BBQ in Abilene, TX.
While on vacation to Alabama a couple years back, we detoured, purchased a cooler, ice and stopped by Joe Allen's to bring home 12 individually-packaged pounds of their chopped brisket! Don't guess Mexican food would do so well frozen that way? 'Sure enjoyed your pictures!

    Have a great day!

  8. We eat a lot of Mexican food around here, too! So, I'd have to say that I'm going to miss our favorite Mexican restaurant, Cabo's, when we move next summer! My eyes are tearing up just thinking about it!

  9. We would miss our favorite Mexican restaurant and our favorite Happy Hour at the California Grill (2.95 cheeseburgers, fish tacos, tortilla soup, caeser salad and 4.24 scratch margaritas), and In & Out Burgers even though we don't go too often.

  10. We have two different Mexican food restaurants we like here. I love the chicken chimichangas at one, but not the other, but the other has a great and quick "speedy Gonzales" lunch and better tacos.

  11. The very worst part of moving is finding a new mexican restaurant, luckily for me, I am surrounded by mexican food here. I'm an enchilada eater too any my fav place knows what I'm going to order when I walk in and they just bring me my diet coke along with the chips and salsa. I've been known to order a margarita at dinner from time to time but at lunch it is always the chicken enchilada and a diet coke. I keep telling myself I'll branch out and try a different dish but that never happens. lol
I think I would love Ole Ole too. I love thin chips and not too hot salsa. Adios Ole Ole, I hope you find something you like as well in your new town.

  12. Yummy yummy! You know how I love my Mexican food. Even living here on the coast, I've never heard of crab meat enchiladas. Sounds great!
I hope you'll find another great Mexican food place so you can poke enchiladas into your tiny mouth! LOL
    Be a sweetie,

  15. Wow! Would I ever love to visit that place. I'm sure you will miss it.
We have many great Mexican restaurants in the Phoenix area. Some day I may write a blog on the restaurant I would miss the most if we ever moved away. Have a great day.

  16. Oh Sally, IF you think finding great Mexican food is hard now---I had a horrible time moving from the Houston area to Tennessee... There's definitely not much good Mexican food up here -- at least not official kind that I enjoyed in Texas.

We have found a place ---and it is pretty good, but it will never be as good as what we got in Texas. George and I love the Fajita's for Two!!!! Yum!

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  19. I like Mexican food too. I could have it often, only I can do without the heartburn I usually get.

Maybe you'll find a new favorite when you move!

    take care,

Both selections look so yummy...I think I could eat one of those enchilladas right now.
You'll find another spot I'm sure that you'll really enjoy...its hard to leave old places though.
    I really don't know what I'd miss...we don't have a favourite as such.
    have a lovely evening

  24. We still miss Little Palace in San Jose, CA. That was our "hot and sour soup" place. We have yet to find a chinese place that could top theirs. *sigh*

  25. Carmelita's would be the restaurant I'd miss most! Their food is delicious. Since you're moving to Tampa, I'll let you know that Carmelita's is over here in Pinellas County. Just come across Tampa Bay and you can still have good Mexican food. We go to the location on Park Street cause that's my favorite one.
