Mary, Did You Know?

Myrrh was used for burials; the wise men foretold Jesus's sacrifice on the cross.

Spiritual Sundays are hosted by gracious Ginger and charming Charlotte. To visit other participants, click here.

See you tomorrow for Blue Monday!

  1. Maybe the myrrh represented the humanity of Jesus. It seemed to foretell of the brutality that would be done to him.

  2. This must have been one of those things Mary "kept and pondered in her heart" at the time that became all too clear later.

  11. I did not know that interesting fact about myrrh. I love all the beautiful prophetic words that point to Jesus as our Messiah. Thanks for sharing, Sally! I hope you had a great Christmas. :)

  12. Blessings Sally!!! The gift of myrrh,
symbolic of His appointed time of sacrifice...WOW...though this is meant as a funny...it's really something if we ponder all 3 of the gifts...none meant or intended for a baby...but so meaningful to what His life would hold and accomplish! I wonder if these were the traditional gifts for a King? Very interesting!

I love your blue background, Sally!

  20. I know Sally. I think blogger made some changes some time ago. When people post to my blog or I post to others, I click their name after reading their comment. That will take me to their profile page. If they are like you and me and have multiple blogs, I have to scratch my head and wonder "which one...". Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's not. I have some wordpress blogs on hold. I am thinking of moving my business (the photography) blog there. That photography blog often gets strange activity... LOL!

  22. We just learned about this on Christmas Eve. But it does make you think of Mary's reaction to this gift.

  27. Words can easily be our undoing. Casually tossed about with little thought of their impact or import, we talk without processing the value (for good or bad) what we way. Proverbs says "In the multitude of words, transgression in unavoidable." James say, "Be slow to speak, quick to hear, and slow to wrath." We would all be wise to carefully chose our words. Proverbs says, "Life and death are in the power of the tongue." I choose life, don't you!!!

Blessings and thanks for leaving me a comment. May the Lord bless you now and in the New Year to come. And may the blood-bought Bride of Christ be "without spot or wrinkle" as we await the glorious appearing of our Heavenly Bridegroom.

  28. We do know what it represents, but the cartoon makes me think. What kind of gift is that for a baby, they should have given him a toy too.

  29. Nice cartoon. Just want to wish you a Happy New Year and may the Lord bless you richly!
