It's Blue Monday! I'm so glad you decided to join in the fun.
Please remember to place the link for Blue Monday on your post so that others can easily find us. I will DELETE those who do not follow this simple rule.
Due to my schedule, I need to close Mr. Linky around 4 PM for today only. However, you may still visit the Blue Monday participants any time by clicking on their links. Leave a comment, and they will return the favor. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GARNER, Iowa — An Iowa teen is all bubbly over her one-of-a-kind high school prom dress she made out of gum wrappers. Elizabeth Rasmuson made her dress – and matching vest for her date – out of blue and white wrappers from Wrigley's "5 gum." The high school junior says she got the idea after hearing about someone making a dress out of duct tape.
She and her boyfriend began collecting gum wrappers last August. Rasmuson says she quit counting after 200.
Since the wrappers break easily, Rasmuson finished her dress with a vinyl top coat.
Amazing. Who'da thunk? I just made gum wrapper chains when I was a kid. Very (Very) creative. Sorry I haven't been around in a few weeks - glad to be back ... happy blue monday! THanks, Jenn
I certainly link to your blog by printing the URL under the title, but I have yet to learn more sophisticated linking! I keep hoping to find someone who can give me unequivocal instructions! When I try How To there are so many versions that I give-up!Anyway, I hope I'm not deleted! I'll play on your sympathies by telling you I'm 80 next birthday!
SHe is one clever, clever girl! And the dress looks fun too. I'm thinking of a project runway challenge where the designers used hershey's wrappers to make clothes :-) ANd her boyfriend is such a sport.
Good morning, this is a great story.I love the colors of "blue and white", thanks for sharing her story. I am showing my granddaughter jumping over barrels.. Baba
Oh my goodness...gum wrappers! I'll bet she is a 4-H member working on a project for "green" ways for the future! Good for her! Happy Blue Monday! Corali
Good morning Sally. This is an interesting story. I wish I could see it closer. The Utube didn't work for me this morning. I will try again. It is a bit odd that the boy only has a T shirt on with his vest. He is wearing a hat??? Funny and clever.
I saw this on the news!!!What a creative and brave young girl. When so many strive to blend in and just be "normal"...she is expressing herself in a creative and constructive way.Her mom must be so proud:)
Sally, just yesterday, I was down in Mexico doing a little shopping. I fell head over heels in love with a purse and wallet made from gum wrappers. Had to leave them as they were very expensive. Well over $150.00!!! But I can certainly see where they could be expensive. What a tedious task to weave and fold. The dress and vest are beautiful! That will certainly be a prom both kids will remember. : )
Wonderful to see that the young ones were so imaginative, and also they didn't follow the group, but had the intestinal fortitude to do their own thing, instead of following the crowd. A lovely photo. Happy Blue Monday, and a very pleasant week. God Bless
Hi Sally, I'm late linking today. I've missed participating in Blue Monday and plan to work on that. So much blue in my life so no excuse. The prom dress and vest is a hoot. I have a handbag made from wrappers. I remember when this was all the craze in the 60s. Thanks for sharing this fun piece. Have a great week. ~ Sarah
Sally, you always find such interesting things to share with us. Chances are this young one will becomes the world's ultimate recycler. I hope all is well and that you are having a great day. Blessings...Mary
