The Ringling Museum had a special exhibit this past August when my family visited. Knowing that I am a big fan of Norman Rockwell, my granddaughter snapped this photo of "The Tattoo Artist" for me. See the Blue?
This is a humorous work. The sailor is getting a new lady's name added to a long list of crossed-out names.
The painting was used as The Saturday Evening Post cover on the March 4, 1944 issue. To read more, click here.

I've always admired Norman Rockwell's artwork! he really had a sense of humor and depicted the common man and woman so well. Happy Autumn and Blue MOnday, Sally!
Funny artwork! We use to say here in the Philippines, 'seaman-loloko', loko here means crazy/insane. It's because seamen are notorious for having different girlfriend in every port they pass/land to. Happy Blue Monday!

Loved the pic of the painting, but I too hate tattoos with a passion. I wonder how many young women (and men) have missed out on jobs because of their "art work"

Good morning Sally, As you can see by my post, we did go to the Gator game and it was a good one. We loved seeing our grands and we won. It was a very fast weekend for sure.
I admire Norman Rockwell's work and I think tattoos in those days were not like today. It seems to be so much more. Especially with females. I have a hard time understanding why??? It hurts and costs a lot I am told. Yikes.

Norman Rockwell is amazing. I love that he used people in his hometown for models. I wonder what its like to see one of his paintings and think, "oh that's grandpa pretending to be a sailor." I think tattoos are useful for people who need to remember or express something unusual, I understand why a group of people might get one to remember serving together. But I don't understand the "fashionable ones."

I am not a tattoo person. The ones that really turn me off are all over the body. That has to hurt. How wonderful it is everyone has a chose.
Norman Rockwell is one of my all time favorites. I'm not a fan of tattoos but it does seem to be a status thing. Maybe if they are real small and discreet they would be OK with me. This is such a funny pic of all of his conquests.

And in my opinion, Tattoo is an art as well though not all people appreciate it.
Here, some thinks that people that has a tattoo are kinda dominant...when you see them there's a fear you'll kinda think of.

Norman Rockwell's artwork is a national treasure.
I remember waiting for the Saturday Evening Post magazine to see the next Norman Rockwell drawing! He had such a great commentary on everyday American life!
No tattoos for me, but each of my children have one or two small ones so I'm OK with them! I know some of their friends whose arms are covered!

Norman Rockwell is such a good artist, and so insightful. I wouldn't personally get a tattoo but they are sure popular with the younger generation.

It's my first visit here today but I have been enjoying Little Wandering Wrens posts so I decided I'm come across to visit ;D
I love the painting and had a giggle at the sailours expression.
I wanted to post some blue sky because here in the North East of Scotland it might be my last!

I'm not a fan of tatoos - always told the kids that if they ever got a tatoo that it better not be with my money and it better be somewhere I can't see it. Norman Rockwell does have a way making a tatoo humerous, however. Take care. Sally
