Show and Tell Friday - Grandchildren's Pictures

Kelli from Kelli's House hosts this meme. Go to her place to join in the fun! I remember Show and Tell from my kindergarten days; how I loved to have something to share. I always felt a sense of excitement when it was my turn. Today, coupled with that sense of excitement, I'm feeling a Grandma's sense of pride as I share how we display our grandchildren's photos.

I have two children: Debi and Allen. I've always said that they are part rabbit because I have SEVEN grandchildren! (Debi has four, and Allen has three.) I wanted to keep a picture of each child on display in our family room, but I don't like clutter.

I have matching 5 x 7 frames with a picture of each child framed. I enlisted Johnny's help. First, we placed each individually framed picture on the floor and laid it out in a pleasing design. We measured so that the exact placement could be transferred to the wall above our sofa. We measured around that grouping carefully, and I painted a rectangle a neutral color that would help blend in with the furnishings in the room. I choose a tan framing material and had a professional frame shop make a giant frame for me. We hung the smaller pictures inside the giant frame.

As I get a new picture, I simply place it over the one that now is in the frame; therefore, I'm always current. I love looking at my grandchildren.

Check out the giveaway in my sidebar.

  1. Sally,

You are definitely one proud Grandma...and rightly so! I know I'll be the same way one day...hopefully!

I love your display for all their pictures...looks great! So much more organized than having a bunch of different frames all over your wall.

  2. I love looking at my photos too on my photo wall in the study. But yours is impressive also because of the most professional layout. I think the secret is having all of them in the same size frame. I have odd frames and then to get them to be even spaced is a challenge I have not risen to!

  3. A friend of mine did the same kind of thing for the pictures in her house. I think it is a wonderful idea. I was telling my daughter about it and she just may try that herself.

You have some nice looking grandchildren there!

    take care,
    Dawn

  4. What a clever idea, I just love that. In my last home I had a planter's shelf around the entire family room, I had gradpictures, baby and wedding poctures, sadly I had to put them all in an album, when we moved in this house.

    Hugs,
    Chris

  6. Morning, on sweet Smiling One! Oh, what a great display of your grandchildren! Love how you and the hubby arranged the pictures.
Now about diets, I focused on that more when I was younger. Now I just try not to be around other folks dieting. There's a lot of that going on in Blogland, so I must tiptoe and cover my ears - don't want to hear the word 'diet'!
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;)

  22. The pictures are wonderful. You did a great job of grouping them. We have two kids too but no grandchildren. (sigh) BTW our son's name is Allen too.
Here's the paint I used on the lamp.
    Rust-oleum Hammered
The one we ended up with is called Brown. We threw the first can away because we used it all. It was exactly the same kind of paint but it was more gray. They were side by side on the shelf and there was very little difference in the colors. I wasn't too sure about the "hammered" but it went on nicely.
    Good luck with your project.

  45. Hi Sally
What a great idea that is!! The pics look fabulous over your sofa all in one frame. Something I will have to think about too.
How special to have so many darling grandchildren. I hope they all live close enough that you can visit frequently. They grow so fast don't they?

I'm still only down to one...and don't know about others hmmmmmm...at least not around the corner...

When I copy and paste things to my site the font is so small and I don't know how to make it larger. Thats what happens with my trivia...
    have a nice evening

  54. That is a great way to display your grands pictures. My mother has her grands displayed over the opening between the kitchen and the dining room. The pictures are on the dining room side. She changed the picture each year until the graduation picture. So her three oldest now are high school graduates with three more on the way. Oh, you did get my email with my address right? Just wondered because I have not received the book in the giveaway you said I had won.
