Remember Mary Ann, played by Dawn Wells from Gilligan's Island? She's a spokesperson for Idaho potatoes now, and she has the best tip for easy peeling. This is quick; it only takes 1:34 to watch.
I wish that I had known about this thirty years ago. Peeling the cooked potato is the least desirable part in making potato salad. It should work for mashed potatoes too.
Will have to try it-- If they show any fast easy peel tricks for hard boiled eggs that are trying to be deviled eggs I am all for it! That is another tricky peel job too! Thanks for sharing the potatoes trick Sally!!! Karyl(Carol)
Well, I'll be a monkey's uncle... I have never seen this done before and IT'S AMAZING. I am so so impressed and can not WAIT to try it. We're having potato salad tonight...hadn't planned on it but...now we are!! Thanks for this amazing tip... hugs, bj
Hi Sally Well isn't that neat! Just like when you do with the pearl onions..and beets. Great idea. Thank you for sharing. have a lovely day... Judi p.s. Yes my mom is feeling much better and actually much better than we expected. She had a bunion removed. Thank you for asking.
Sally this is really a post that I can relate to anything that makes life easier.I love potatoe salad so I'll be trying this real soon. Thanks again. Vikki
This is third time I have seen this today and I know why...there is not a woman on earth who would not be so excited to learn this trick. I am trying it tonight...I was going to have baked potatoes but I am going to do this. Thank you for sharing this wonderful potato magic.
Have a Terrific Tuesday I love coming to visit you from Roberta Anne a.k.a. The Raggedy Girl
How interesting, will have to give it a try. DH won't eat potato salad unless it's made with red potatos with the peel left on. But I am going to try this next time I make mashed potatoes.
I have received the book (If Tomorrow Never Comes) that I won from your book give away. Thank you giving me the opportunity to win and for sharing your wonderful blog.
I remembered seeing her video a while back, so Googled it and found your blog today when I was getting ready to make a huge pot of mashed potatoes. So, who all's tried the tip now? I tried it, but had only partial success. I don't know if it was because my I was almost out of ice and my ice bath wasn't cold enough, but the skins didn't just slide off like they appeared to for her! LOL.
I ended up having to peel them after all, though the peels came off easily with my peeler and there was little waste. They were starchy and slimy, though, achallenge to hold onto while peeling and slicing.
This is amazing, Sally. I can't wait to try it! Thanks for sharing it.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't Dawn look great!
That really is amazing. I will be making potato salad in May and I'm going to try this. Thank you. I hope you have a great day ♥

ReplyDeleteI am going to try this one for sure as I use so many potatoes during the summer months for salad. I had to laugh remembering Gilliga's Island show:)
ReplyDeleteOk I'm stuck on the gilligan island reference. ;)
ReplyDeleteHow absolutely cool is that! I love to make masked potatoes and hate the peeling (My kids will not eat the peels!)!!
ReplyDeleteI actully have the Gilligan cookbook and met Dawn at a signing event years ago. She was fun to listen to.
Love,

I'm laughing! I wonder how many of us will run out and get potatoes just to try this neat trick?
