Kelli from Kelli's House hosts Show and Tell Friday. If you have something special to share, this is the place to show it. It could be a trinket from grade school, a piece of jewelry, or a treasured collection. Go to her place to join in the fun!
I follow HGTV, and they say that in order to sell a home, you must neutralize it. That is, remove all knickknacks, personal items, and pictures of family members. Here's my before with my seven grandchildren's pictures:
And here's how I neutralized that wall:
I found this metal thingy at Home Goods for $14.99. I like it enough that I plan to use it in our future home.
This idea of framing would work on any wall to "enlarge" the wall hanging.
Well, I really like the "thingy" you found - it looks very stylish. But I love the way the wall looked in the "before" shot, too. Yes, I guess "neutralizing" is necessary, but it's definitely not as interesting as seeing an actual lived-in house.
ReplyDeleteYour metal "thingy" is beautiful. I will definitely have to visit Home Goods soon. :)
ReplyDeletethank you for sharing with us
Gina
Great idea and great price.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend!

Love the Thingamabobber! Even more, I enjoy your creativity Sally. We are moving just a bit more up town to a larger space. We will still be in Colorado. You have more work cut out for you than I have for me. Be blessed this weekend. Stop and enjoy life still as you plan for the move. :) Ask me how I know that one!
ReplyDeleteThat looks so cool. By itself, it wouldn't make much impact but in the frame, it is a major work of art. You know you could even paint it blue in your new home. LOL I think it would be awesome over a bed, I want one!
ReplyDeleteExcellent demonstration!
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful both ways but the experts appear to be right about this. We did this at my Mother's house and the next people bought the house. Could have had something to do with it.

It looks great. It is amazing how just framing something really does give it impact. Gorgeous. Hugs, Marty
ReplyDeleteWow...that really made a huge difference, Sally! Of course, I thought all your family pictures looked great, too!
ReplyDeleteVery Very Very COOL! And Pretty to boot! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWow, i think the iron work looks fantastic, i too would use it in your new home. Beautiful change
ReplyDeletehugs

I love the wall both ways and if I loved the house, the family pics would not be a deterrent.
ReplyDeleteYep I have always heard to take out all family pictures so the "new" family could see themselves in the home. GREAT job!
ReplyDeleteI disagree with HGTV there -- every home we have bought and sold has been "personalized." Nevertheless, that is a great art piece!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea. Lord if I decided to sell, I'd just have to move everything out and start over cause everything in my house is personalized...lol..
ReplyDeleteMolly
love that metal thing!!! what a great buy!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are something else, Sally, thinking of everything. It looks very nice.
ReplyDeleteHi Sal!
ReplyDeleteI IS hard to put away the family photos, isn't it?....but they do say it's they way to sell a home. I love your solution. I actually had a built in frame in my hallway years ago for family pictures. Yours is much prettier, though. :-)
Good luck selling your home!
Blessings,
Spencer
I love your before & after! The framed area is a great idea! ☺ Diane
ReplyDeleteHi Sally! I keep telling Mary Nash she should blog. Both of you have so much to offer readers from around the world. I was reading your posts -- are you guys moving? Well, just wanted to stop in and say hey. Your blog looks awesome.
ReplyDeleteHi Sally, Whatever you did to neutralize your home WORKED---since you sold it so quickly.
ReplyDeleteYou should write a book (or pamplet) on how to neutralize your home before selling it...
Hugs,
Betsy
Your wall looks pretty both ways. I don't know if I agree with the neutralizing or not. Personally I love to see what people have done with their houses to make it a home.

Yhrift shop finds are great to do this. Having fun yet???Kathy
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty piece! Yes, one of my best friends is a realtor and she says this is true. When the future buyers come in, without all the personal items around, they can better vision themselves living there. But...whatever YOU did was the thing to do...look how fast you sold your home.
ReplyDeleteHope you aren't wearing yourselves out trying to get it all done. Take all the help you can get!!
xo bj
I agree. I think that's a good selling point and you did a great job!
ReplyDeleteThat looks super Sally. I hope you have a nice Memorial Weekend.
ReplyDeleteVery creative...I like it very much (but being a grandmother...I also like your Pics!)
ReplyDeleteHi Sally...
ReplyDeleteOooh...I love your metal thingy...as you put it! Hehe! It really is pretty, I guess I would call it a decorative iron piece! Hehe!
Isn't it funny...how they say to "neutralize" your home when trying to sell it? I think it's a "new-fangled" idea! Hehe! We never used to even consider such things and funny how our homes used to still sell! I guess it has something to do with the new generation! Anyway, I loved the photos of your grandchildren too!
Warmest wishes,
Chari
Hi Sally,
ReplyDeleteLove your new wall art. Removing personal pictures and stuff is something you don't think about doing...but I can see how it would help!
Just beautiful!
ReplyDelete~Kelli
Perfect idea and it's beautiful!...Christine
ReplyDeleteI think it's so sweet of you to have kept a photo of each of your grandchildren on your wall. :)) And it's creative of you to have found a way to "neutralize" that... :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty metal "thing". Hope the house sells soon!
ReplyDeleteLove the new metal wall sculpture! Happy packing!
ReplyDeleteBless you,
Susan
I love that piece hanging on your wall. I would totally have picked that up too.
