Dutch Shoe

I went bargain hunting at the local GW store. I will not go back there again because frankly, the store had a bad odor. However, I found this delightful blue "wooden" shoe. It's ceramic, so although it was quite dirty, it holds no odor.

The true color is the last picture. It closely corresponds with the blue and white vase.

I cleaned it up, and now will find a faux piece of greenery to complete the look.

  4. It's so pretty!

Our GW is sort of like that. The GW in Clearwater are great - one is almost like a department store.

I hope you're settling in at the new place. :)

  5. Looks like it's a blue Tuesday, too! I've always loved "Dutch" shoes, and this is a really cute one. It'll look great with some green leaves spilling out. It's a shame about the smelliness at the GW store, but at least you were able to rescue a very nice item.

  6. Sally, Now that is a cute little ceramic shoe to coordinate with your vase! Gee, what is it about goodwill stores? They DO smell funny- everyone I've been in... maybe it's the clothes.

  9. Sally, that is cute! What about some faux tulips for that shoe? They might be too big for it, but I was just kind of thinking thematically. Greenery would likely look better, though. Very cute. :-)

  10. hahhhaaa..oh, Sally..I laughed when I read about the smell. Some of the thrift stores here are like that..too many old clothes that haven't been cleaned, I guess. We have 2 REALLY nice GW stores, tho. They are clean, have clean clothes and etc. so it smells ok. I usually just sashay right by the clothing and on to TREASURES awaiting me in the dish area !! :)
    (is sashay even a word??)

  11. Good morning Sally, I love the little shoe. I have found a couple of stores like that, I do a lot of Junkin and travel over a 100 mile area somedays I am so glad that our local GW is clean and neat. I went in one in a little town up the road from here that I won't go back too. It was in an old junk yard and nasty wasn't the word. Yuck.
Hope the move is going smooth.

  13. To BJ, I love the word sashay! I haven't used it in a long time but I think you have just made it my new favorite word!

Sally, I think that you, Picket and I have hyper sensitive smellers because I feel the same way about any store that sells used things. My sister used to be obsessed with consignment stores and I called them the "smelly" stores.

  23. Goodwill always seems to have that musty odor - but I've gotten some good finds there. My most recent, was a Princess Heritage Hand Blown Pot with the original sticker still on the bottom. It was in perfect condition! My son has it listed on Ebay;-)

    Your shoe is perfect!

Sorry you had to deal with a smelly store. That can really turn you off from shopping there.

  36. I thought it was blue Monday, looking at your Dutch shoe! :)

This reminds me of a little porcelain shoe my mother used to keep in the showcase, as a decoration. For the life of me, I couldn't get it to fit on my foot!!! Ha ha haah ah ah ha !
