Outdoor Wednesday - Our New Temporary Home

Susan at A Southern Daydreamer is the gracious hostess for Outdoor Wednesday. Participants post pictures of anything that they might find outdoors. Come join in.

Several bloggers have expressed a curiosity about what my new apartment looks like, so I thought I'd use Outdoor Wednesday to show you.

This is the entrance to the complex. These buildings were originally built three years ago and sold as condominiums. However, when our bad economic times hit, some units were rented. We are renting until our new home is built. We've been told that we'll be in by Christmas. Our son is renting a house one block away--right down this road. I wish that we could always stay this close, but eventually, we'll be seven miles apart.

It had just stopped raining before I took these photos, so everything looks clean and shiny.

This is the back door to our unit, and the one I prefer to use. The front door is in a dark hallway. I like to see the sunshine and green grass when I walk out my door.

The apartment comes with blinds in all the windows and a full-sized washer and dryer. It's a two-bedroom, 2 ½ bath. I have no idea why a half bath is necessary! The door to the right houses the air conditioner.

The place has new carpeting and fresh paint. It was all nice and clean which made moving in much easier. There's a dishwasher and a microwave in the kitchen.

We put a pretty little plant here, and I must say, it makes me feel more at home.

I can't remember what the name of this plant is, but we've had one before. It's an easy one for us to keep alive and happy. We simply water once a week with a weak fertilizer (as Tootsie suggests). I hope I've answered your questions about my new apartment.

  4. Do you feel a bit as if you are vacation? I would imagine knowing that it is temporary and all so new it would have that feel to it.

This seems like a lovely place to transition to your new neighborhood.

  8. Sally,

I was so excited to see on my blogroll that you were sharing pics of your new place. Maybe I am just nosy! LOL!! It must be great to be close to family and yes, to me, even 7 miles apart is a wide expanse.

Your apartment sounds very nice and efficient. I hope all goes well with your new house being finished on time.

By the way, your plant is a Peace Lily.

  11. Sally, I love the looks of your new place! It is a very attractive complex, and I hope it will be a nice experience living there while you await your new digs.

Your plant is an Anthurium. I think that's the spelling. We used them in a HUGE arrangement along with orchids, bamboo, birds of paradise and other tropical flowers when we had an anniversary/birthday party (between our birthdays) several years ago. We decided to go tropical because we had out of state guests who were not used to seeing tropicals. It worked out well, too, because the party was in June.

I need to borrow your green thumb! LOL!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  13. PS, Sal, I think your plant is called anthurium, if I remember right from a former horticulture class. . .maybe that is the scientific name for peacelily?

  19. Sally... glad you got moved in... hope you house is finished on time! I don't have any idea on the plant name (though I think Sheila is right)... but it sure is pretty!

I spent a summer in Tampa one year when I was a teenager... It rained every day at the same time in the early afternoon... I loved it... the daily rain, the heat lightening, the beach, and a cute boy across the street are my favorite memories of Tampa/St.Pete... ;)

  26. Sally, I've never been to Florida but you are taking me there with your blog photos. Now I can picture you in your new, temporary quarters. It would be nice to have occasional summer rain, it's so dry here...but so is our heat.

  27. Looks like a nice place. I'm with you about the door -- I don't want to come in through a dark hallway.

A half-bathroom is necessary when one needs to use the bathroom and the main one is occupied. :-)

  28. Magiepie is correct - your plant is an Anthurium, which is also know as a Flamingo Flower or Tail Flower.

Looks like a lovely place to visit, but I'm sure your hose will be even better!

  37. Thanks for sharing your new digs with us, Sally! It's been such fun catching up, after being sans e-mail for a week. Just back from from Orlando -- and gotta admit, 7 years away from Florida, the humidity whupped us, big-time. My hat's off to ya'all!

PS - Loved the pix of your son with the 3 paper neckties!

  39. Hi Sally, Thanks for taking us on a tour of your temporary home. I had read that the housing market in the Tampa area is HORRIBLE.

George's nephew and wife got transferred from Tampa to Chattanooga, TN. They bought a new home in TN--but have yet to sell their home in FL...

Glad things worked nicely for you.
    Hugs,
    Betsy

  52. Looks like you have a great place to live while you're waiting for your new home to be built. I am really glad that you are so happy being near the grandkids.

Sorry I haven't visited in so long. I still don't have my computer working and this borrowed one is excrutiatingly slow. It can take over 5 minutes for a page to load some days, and then it still won't scroll, and it freezes a lot. On days that it wants to work, then I have better luck making blog visits.
