You may remember that Johnny and I had a favorite Mexican restaurant in South Florida. I wrote about it here. Well, we found a good one in our new area. It doesn't have crab enchilades as Ole Ole has, but the food is good. It's called Vallarta's.
We ordered our standard: enchiladas, rice, and beans. I don't eat the beans; I scrap the melted cheese onto a chip!
I dump salsa on top of my rice too. Okay, okay, I'm weird, but it's good.
Now, my question is: why do they do that? Look up. See the television?
Why do all restaurants feel the need to put televisons--with the sound OFF? I do not understand. On this day, the news was on. What good is the news with no sound?
I don't know which is more annoying: a television without sound OR one with sound in a restaurant. Why do we feel the need so strong for those silly things that we cannot even eat a meal without them?
ReplyDeleteA TV in a sports bar, I get. However, in a restaurant, I don't. Especially if there is no closed caption.
ReplyDeleteHi Sally..in my place, some restaurants play the wrestling show on their tv and with a loud sound...its really annoying and I hate it!
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day :-)
Lots of luv,
Ita
Glad to hear from you. Yummmy!
ReplyDeletedon't know either. but, we had that same dish monday night at a mexican restaurant in our area - El Dorado Mexican Restaurant. And my plate looked exactly like yours.
ReplyDeleteYeah. If you're going to have the news on, at least have closed captioning on!
ReplyDeleteI have no clue. It is frustrating.
ReplyDeleteAs for Mexican food. I love it! Warren doesn't so I have a friend that I go out with about once a year for a great Mexican meal.
Fajitas are my weakness!
Becky K.
We have several Mexican resturants here...a few years ago there was only one! They are always crowded...good food at low prices!
ReplyDeleteMexican food....yum! Now you've got me really hungry! Join me for some home-made salsa...I know Sal you're thinking at 8:30 AM?????
ReplyDeleteWell...maybe you better just meet me for lunch...LOL! I'll meet you at your new place!
my guess is they probably have several tvs with different channels on... news, ballgames, etc and they have the sound off to accomodate that... personally, they can turn the TVs off and leave them off... I'd rather eat to some good music...
ReplyDeletebut glad you found a great Mexican food place in your new abode... perhaps you can make a few suggestions to their menu.. ;)
I love mexican food too. That looks yummy indeed. I wouldn't want a TV in an establishment I'm eating at. I do understand people like them in sports bars. We have TV's attached near the pumps in some of our gass stations here in our area. I don't understand that at all especially in the dead of winter. Who wants to stand outside pumping gas watching TV? I guess some people do because they seem to be quite popular.
ReplyDeleteLOL!! Sally I dont get it either, and guess what? Banks here do it too! I wonder the same thing!
ReplyDeleteHow was your meal? was it as good as your previous favorite restaurant?
You know what, Sally...I've wondered that same thing! I love salsa on my rice, too!
ReplyDeleteYum, that looks good, Sally. I love Mexican food too. I guess they think we want to see the news all the time.
ReplyDeleteHi Sally, I'm glad you found a new restaurant that you like...and about the tv with no sound...it could be worse...our local one uses a Spanish speaking tv station...real loud...and you know who doesn't understand a word!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a good day....
Who knows why?? LOL
ReplyDeleteGlad you found a new mexican restaraunt...one shouldn't go too long without enchiladas :)
love and hugs
Oh Mexican is one of my favorites too... I love it but have never really found any good ones around the Pinellas side if the bay.... We will be in Arizonia & New Mexico next winter so I know I'll get my fill there... As far as TV's... They are NOT needed unless your with someone very boring... ha ha Welcome to the BAy Area...

Well, Smiling Sally...it beats the heck outa me. I've wondered the exact same thing...makes not a lick of sense.
ReplyDeleteNow, for that hugh breakfast...I am keeping 3 grands for a week...I have to have a hearty breakfast just to stay up with them!! hahaaa..
hugs, bj
I love Mexican food. I'm glad you found one you like. However, you may find one you like even better. So, unless it is so close to home you just must go there, or unless it is so good it couldn't get any better. Let the adventure continue. About those T.V's. Don't ask me. I don't have a clue.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure about the TV without sound, but that plate of food looked DELICIOUS*!!! ((smile))

That has always annoyed me, I'm not a lip reader and if I were I wouldn't want to sit and stare at the screen in order to read them. I prefer no TV at all.I go out to relax, if I wanted to watch TV I'd order take out and go home and eat in front of my TV that I could hear....
ReplyDeleteIn other words BEATS ME.
Hi Sally, Glad you found a Mexican Restaurant that you like. They are all different. I loved the Tex/Mex when I lived in Texas. It's hard to find up here in TN.
ReplyDeleteWell--unless that restaurant was quiet (which they usually are not), having the sound on the TV wouldn't have helped. Maybe they should have close-captioning --so you could at least READ what was going on. Talk to the restaurant manager. Maybe they'll work out something for you.
Hugs,
Betsy
I don't know. I think it's dumb, and I wish they'd leave them out. I don't want the sound on -- I come there to talk with the people I'm eating with, not watch TV. Some of them have the sound off but the close captioning on. It seems so strange to see people eating and silence while watching words and pictures go by on a box. Don't people talk to each other and enjoy each other's company any more while eating?
ReplyDeleteI am not crazy about TV's in restaurants, but I could be a little forgiving if I were served the meal you were!!

I don't see the appeal of TVs in restaurants, but agree that it is frustrating to see them without any audio. Inevitably that is when something is going on and you want to hear where, why or who is involved.
ReplyDeleteAnd, don't you hate it when someone at your table is looking over your head, and you just know they are watching the TV? I come down hard on my kids and grandkids for doing that. Sally
ReplyDeleteHello Sally, it sounds like you are acclimating really well in your new location. I am so happy for you and your family.
ReplyDeleteWho knows why a TV is in most eating establishments. The sound off is a mystery. I agree, what's the point? It is funny the way you eat your Mexican food. But...it sounds good to me. I love Mexican food.
Hugs...Jeanne
Too funny, Sally ...
ReplyDeleteHere I'm staring at the picture of your plate (and salivating!) Then, sniff, sniff! -- I'm definitely catching the aroma of enchiladas! No, hubby was preparing himself quick Mexican skillet supper.
Still, for a few seconds I was convinced your blog had developed Smell-a-Vision!
