Bicycle Paths

Susan at A Southern Daydreamer is the hostess for Outdoor Wednesday. Participants post pictures of anything that they might find outdoors. Come join us.

My new home has beautiful and extensive bicycle paths that parallel the highway. It's used quite a bit by not only bicyclists but by walkers too.

I've seen bike paths before, but I have never seen one quite as nice as this. Perhaps you haven't either. Most bike paths look like sidewalks.

However, sections of these paths are built like bridges so that people can move unimpeded over water or swampland.

Does your area have anything like this?

  1. What I wish we had here are buggy paths. It can be so dangerous!

When we lived in State College there was a very nice network of bike paths but not here in Lancaster.

I agree that the ones you have are very nice.

  4. Hi Sally.

Its nice to live in that kind of area. Having green environment around us will make us feel more relax.

  5. Your new locale certainly looks inviting. I'm envious since I live in a very urban area, where they're slowly but surely destroying all the green space. Of course, I think my biking days are over, but I still like the idea of bike and hiking paths in the city. Makes the rat race more bearable.

  6. Nice. Around here, the bikers are lucky they're not hit by oncoming cars. In fact in the last year two WERE hit. [I personally think both instances were intentional] Sad, but true.

My Outdoor Wednesday is a broken heart...come by to visit, won't you?

  8. Girl, I didn't realize you were from Tampa. We are almost neighbors. Tomorrow we are going to do some more sightseeing around here and to end our day we are going to a Crab Shack to eat blue crabs and I certainly will crack a couple for you only. Oh, I almost forgot, in St Pete there is a very very long trail, just for walking, biking,or anything you would need a nice pavement.

    Hugs,
    Chris

  13. In our part of the country, we have wonderful river walks shared by pedestrians, bicycles, and horses. It can get a bit dicey with horses and what they leave behind!!! Sally

  14. What great areas to stroll. We used to live by horse trails, even though we didn't own a horse. Now we settle for walking on the golf course, after all the golfers have gone home.

  16. Looks like you will have some very nice surroundings at your new home. I have never seen bicycle paths like these. It appears they would be a safe place for a nice stroll.

  17. Very nice, Sally. We have a nature center nearby so we do have a series of paths over swamps and ponds and through tall marsh grasses. We also have LOTS of mosquitoes but its fun just the same. It sounds to me like you are really enjoying that new home already. ~ Robyn

  22. Around here Sally it seems people have canoes or boats or pontoons. Since we live on the river, that's the way of transportation!!

  26. my entire city is equipped with paths like this. They weave in and around and all over the place in the trees and parks etc. I love them. This is a very nice area you live in my friend

  27. Awesome bike paths! If we had bike paths here, I'd be biking every day! I live in an urban area, so the only biking time I get is at that gym.

  28. Sally, I am so glad I am not alone in making mistakes. I did not see it as such for a enjoy comments from you or John. However, I did wonder if he had a problem if he had not mowed since his 30's. Bless you and John.

  29. I like the fact that it isn't right up against the traffic as some bike paths are. I love to walk but some areas are not safe for walkers. I've seen similar paths in other cities.

  32. Nope. Our area does not have anything that looks like that for bicycles. I don't even think we have bicycle lanes painted on the streets anymore.

  33. What a beautiful area to bike or walk! ☺ Diane

  34. The Dayton area has numerous biking/walking trails called Rail-Trails. They are old, abandoned railroad right-of-ways that are being converted into smooth traffic- free trails. The shortest one is about 3 mi. and the longest one is about 72 mi. They obviously are not specific to neighborhoods, since the paths were originally railroad routes. You can ride from one end of town to the other, or from one city to another.( the 72 mile route)Yours look very scenic, as well.

  39. Hi Sally!
Been a long time since I've been here. Are you all settled into your new place? Those bike paths are nicer then what we have. We just have "bike lanes" that are on the street, but there are paths that lead along our "river" and will take you right to the ocean.
Hope all is well with you.
It's good to be back online after such a long hiatus.

  40. That is a cool cycle path! We don't have any that nice here.

  41. That is really nice to have bike paths like that! We have a park at the end of our street that has nice sidewalks where people can ride bikes or walk. There is another park across from it, so there is a lot of opportunity to walk, or run, or ride bikes!

  42. What a beautiful place to walk or ride a bike. I especially like the bridge. We don't have many places like that here. I'll bet you can get some wonderful pictures while your walking through that area.
