Shopping for Sofas and Be an Inspiration!

Shy at Milestones gave me An Inspirational Award this past Blue Monday. She's a relatively new blogger friend of mine, and I'm so honored to receive this pretty blue award.

Yesterday was a busy day as it was Blue Monday, and Johnny and I were scrambling around trying to find some couches. Yes, I said "some." We need three: one for the living room and two for the family room. These days, couches are made for people to sink into, and I'm so old that I simply want to sit--not sink. In fact, whenever I sink, I sometimes struggle to "swim" back up!

Here are some I found on the internet:

I like shiny things, but this isn't quite my taste.

This looks nice, but it sits soft. It's a "sinker."

This one would sit low to the floor.

There's no room for anyone to sit on this couch!

This one is called, "moleskin." I can see the moles crawling on the arms! Ew.

We did not find a couch. (sigh) If you have an idea of where I might find a tight back sofa, please share. Meanwhile, the hunt continues.

This made the receiving of this sweet award even more appreciated. I'd like to pass it on to you because those who visit and leave comments inspire me. So feel free to take it to your blog; just let me know if/when you accept it.

  2. I agree on your thoughts on couches. We have been shopping too for the same. There is absolutely no back support or you are sunk in it. Husband & I watch the sales and don't find anything worth going to see. I'm thinking of going to a used furniture place that recovers and see if they have some "old style" couches that have been updated but the support is still intact.

  3. zig congrats on your award, Sally! You know, I think finding a suitable sofa is one of the hardest tasks a person can ever be faced with. Good luck in finding just the right one!

  5. Good morning Sally. I have to say I agree totally about a couch that is hard to get out of. I too have that trouble. Could it possibly be age? Nah, it is the makers fault. What are they thinking? Do they think everyone has springs in their legs? LOL.

We found a fabulous couch at Lazy Boy. Each individual cushion has it's own springs. High and comfortable. No cushions on the back, I hate that. They never stay in place. Check it out.

    Have a happy day.

    Hugs, Jeanne

  6. Oops, congrats on your award. You deserve it Sally. I so enjoy your blog and consider you to be my friend. Maybe some day we can meet. We do drive to Fl. pretty often. Now that you have moved to central Fl it is possible.

    Hugs again, Jeanne

  9. Congrats on the award, Sally... of course you know I think you are very deserving! :-)

Go to the Hunt Gallery website. They have very nice furniture, and you might be able to find something there. They might have a camel back sofa which should have a tight back. Ours did. You can also call the lady at the factory and talk to her. She's very knowledgable. I have two love seats my mother gave us for a wedding gift over thirty years ago, and they've been good "friends." They have eight-way hand tied coils and hardwood frames. So they are good sofas that have lasted. The price is right, too, because you are buying from their family factory. Check it out and see...

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  10. Oh, Most Smiling One! I'm so sorry! I do understand. We were looking a while back and had a tough time finding the right one. I'm so short, most of the sofas I sat on, my tiny legs wouldn't touch the floor and I'd have to roll off! :)
Thank you, Sally for your prayers for my daughter. I do appreciate you.
    Be a sweetie,
    Shelia ;0

  11. Good luck on finding the "perfect" couch. My hubby and I have very different tastes in couches so I think we compromise. After some cheap furniture, I finally got to pick the couch I wanted and when it wore out he now has the couch he wants. I don't necessarily "love" it but it will do for now.

  12. Try Kravet furniture. There is a sofa called the Sunapee style (I think!) and it comes with a tight back or cushion back. Great thing about Kravet and other high end lines is that it is so custom. Options include skirted, casters, non-skirted, nailhead, all down, foam core and down, COM, etc.

  13. Mine fall in two groups. One is so low, you feel like you are sitting on the floor. Whereas the other, the seat part if so wide, your feet will not touch the floor, unless you really tall. Take your time. You will find the right one.

  14. What is a tight-backed sofa?

We found our family room couch at Rooms To Go. They do let you buy just the pieces you want rather than the whole roomful.

We found the living room one at a neat little small, non name-brand store in GA. It's too far just to drive there to furniture shop or else I'd go there again.

  15. Hi Sally, The best sofa I have ever had is our LazyBoy. They are soft but not sinky... We bought one that reclines on both ends --with a regular seat in the middle. It's wonderful.

    Good Luck!!

  16. I personally like the brown one, Sally. The throw pillows can be used for naps or just stacked on the floor.

In order to find a couch you don't sink into, find something (maybe something you already have)and measure the depth. Use that as a guide when shopping.

I personally love Overstock.com. You will get a great description and all the measurments. Prices are fantastic and shipping is $2.99 on ALL items.

Let us know what you decide on!

    xoxo

  17. Look on line at American Signature. They have one here ,I don't know if they have one there. It just depends how much you want to spend. The fun is in the hunt. Kathy

  18. I am looking also. I have 2 Clayton Marcus that were expensive, and very comfy, but to lounge, not sit! They are too deep..8 yrs old and in perfect condition, but I want something like you described. I want 3 cushions, cause with 2, when you have company, no one ever sits in the middle!
Hope you find what you like!
