Johnny and I went to a Best of Broadway Musical this past week. We saw 9 to 5, the Musical, and laughed our heads off. We heard good music, and saw plenty of blue, our favorite color. Dolly Parton wrote both the lyrics and the music, so you know we were tapping our feet.

Here's an official description:

Set in 1979, the story of three unlikely acquaintances try to take control of their company and learn there's nothing they can't do.

"9 to 5: The Musical" features some well-known Broadway names. Diana DeGarmo, a third-season "American Idol" finalist, plays the role of Dorelee, a part made famous in the film by Dolly Parton. Sharing the stage are: three-time Tony Award nominee Dee Hoty as Violet, Broadway veteran Mamie Parris as Judy and Joseph Mahowald as Franklin Hart Jr.

Dorelee is supposed to be from Texas, so Diana DeGarmo used a high-pitched, thick accent. I lived in Texas for one year, and I've never heard anyone speak with such an accent! This detracted as it was a bit difficult to understand the words when she spoke quickly. Even if she meant to sound like Dolly, a Tennessee native, the accent was too phony for me. All other actors were as clear as bells. In any case, we had a good night. Any time there's laughter, I like it. Therefore, I'd recommend it.

Happy Blue Monday!

  14. Hi Sally, I remember seeing 9 to 5 back when it first came out. It's nice to read about the musical and I'm interested to learn that Diana from American Idol is in it - she is from a small town near where I live in GA! Sounds like a great, fun musical. I am finally linking up with all of you for Blue Monday. Thanks for being a gracious hostess!

  23. Good morning Sally, I loved the movie 9 to 5. I would love to see this play. Our small town probably will not be included in this production. I know you enjoyed this chance to be entertained. I really liked Diane DeGarmo on Idol. I am happy for her apparent success.

Our color here is really about gone. Winter, here we come. We just ordered a heated bed for Cheri'. What a spoiled puppy. Check my PS post. Cheri' is posing as an elephant. Smile. She keeps us laughing.
    Have a wonderful day.
    Warm hugs, Jeanne

  28. My husband and I were big fans of Dolly Parton. He thought she was it. I remember seeing the movie very well. Loved it and glad some of her music has made to Broadway. She came from very humble means, but she is one smart cookie.

  43. Hi, Sally! I'm back to blogging after being away for a LONG time! I also found something BLUE! It sounds like the musical was a fun time for y'all. Being a native Deep Southerner, I'm always amused when I hear a fake Southern accent. I know very few Southerners who actually do sound that bad, and that's usually some guy who likes to pretend he's some Big Daddy plantation-owner type. They generally fake up their accents, too! LOL!

  44. Hi Sally, I remember the MOVIE --but didn't know there was a musical... I'm sure it was fabulous. We'd love it....
