Blue Monday - Blue Barber Shop

Welcome! It's Blue Monday! For instructions, just click here.

I'm struggling with the new Blogger format. Are you? Does anyone know where we can go for help?

The idea is to find an item of blue and post it. However, unless you're visiting other bloggers of blue, you're missing the fun.

Try it; you'll like it. Visit other Blue participants by clicking on their links and wishing them a Happy Blue Monday!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Remember when there was a barber shop on every other corner? That's where the men would go. I remember taking my young son for his first haircut. I miss seeing barber shops.
Johnny and I live in Lutz, a small town, north of Tampa.
We spotted this blue barber shop and stopped to snap some pictures.
Here's a closer shot. I love that striped pole.
The sign shows that this barber shop started in 1991. That doesn't seem so long ago.
Happy Blue Monday!
  1. Hi Sally, are you using the new blogger interface? I am still using the old one. You can choose to go back to the old one if you want to.
    Hubby doesn't go to a barber shop anymore, we bought a kit and we cut our hair by ourselves.
  15. Just last week I waited in the car while Mr D went in for a haircut. I noticed the barber had installed a pretty new barbers pole beside the door. The stripes were going round and round. It was great.
    Happy Blue Monday !
  17. In our small town, we have 2 barber shops. One is located on the main street, while the other is near the gate of a military base with a striped pole. Your blues are perfect!
  18. Well darn Sally, I wrote my comment and Blogger wanted all kinds of info from me. I closed it and my comment didn't post. Grrrrrrr.
    I get my hair cut in a small shop close to my home. That is the only thing close to here. Bill goes to town to an old fashioned barber shop about 15 miles from here. I remember the days of getting my children's haircuts too. The boys looked so cute in that great big barber chair.
    Happy Blue Monday. I will hopefully be posting while on vacation.
    Happy days to you and yours.
    Love, Jeanne
  20. Good Morning! I do love the barber shop - there are still a few here and I like taking my boys in for "a proper boy's cut" although one of mine likes growing his long these days.
  23. We've got at least a dozen different barbers within a ten minute walk. Some of them call themselves "hair stylists" these days though.
  24. What a cute barber shop! I love the idea that they have been taking care of the men in town for so long.
  25. I've never seen a blue barber shop before, but why not? Blue is a wonderful color!
    ReplyDelete
  26. It has been hard for my husband to find an actual barber shop the last several years, but thankfully they have one here close by. Before that he was just going to those walk-in places that services everyone, but they just weren't the same.
  27. My Grandfather was a barber from
    about 1922-1990..he had the old fashioned pole outside his shop and an old pepsi machine inside we used to love going there...Happy Blue Monday!
  28. gotta just luv those old Americana classics like this barber shop!
    Slowly but surely so many things are being replaced by Big Box or Mall shoppes. Sad but true and we're letting it happen in every town everywhere!
    Neat shot.
  29. Nice photo's, Sally. Happy Blue Monday!
  30. I remember those barber poles from when I was a kid -- you just don't see them anymore. I think the guys would like the old fashioned ones where they can get a shave and a shoe shine too!
  32. Neat blue barber shop... Always loved the barberpoles in the old ones.
  33. I have always wanted an authentic, antique barber pole for our family room. . . .but when you find them (and that's hard) they are way out of my price range. That's a great shop you shared!
    I just switched beauticians and get my hair cut by the sweetest young girl....and she's cheap! Right now, I'm struggling with fixing my hair because of my hurt hand, but I guess it doesn't bother me that much, cuz I keep going out in public! ha ha!
  36. I live in a rural area where the older men are to macho to go the unisex places. So we have a lot of barber shops. But, my husband gets upset because they will not longer do the same things as the old time shops did. He likes a razor cut and health dept. rules here forbid them due to aids and other health issues.
    We do have a salon in town that looks very much like this but it is painted a girly pink.
    ReplyDelete
  37. My husband still goes to a traditional barber shop. ;-)
    ReplyDelete
  38. Hi Sally, I love your shots of the barber shop and poles. My husband and now my son both go to barber shops here and refuse to go to a "salon!". We have even been to the old fashioned one on main street in disneyworld--it has become a bit of a tradition now for will to get his buzz cut there to welcome in the summer months. I will have to post some pictures I took last time! And you are right about 1991. It doesn't seem very long ago although that was the year my son was born and he is about to start his junior year of college! Linda
