Blue Monday - Birthday Cake

Hi there! It's time for Blue Monday! For complete instructions, please click here.

I hope that everyone had a good celebration of Christmas.

See what blues other participants have on display by clicking on their links. Wish them a Happy Blue Monday and make their day! I'm sure they'll return the comment.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Each year we have our family Christmastime dinner, and for dessert, we always serve a birthday cake, complete with candles. Of course everyone sings, "Happy Birthday."
It all began with the first grandchild. I wanted to think of a way to teach about the birth of Christ. Once a child has experienced their own first birthday, they understand a birthday cake, so when our first grandchild reached that age, I served a "Happy Birthday, Jesus." It quickly became a family tradition.
When the grandchildren became teenagers, I thought about eliminating it; but they insisted that we continue. I was happy to learn that as big as they were, it was still important to them, and so we continued. Here's our cake for this year. I had Blue candles and Blue flowers and Blue trim on it. The cake is a four-layer, yellow cake from Publix, and with fudge frosting, and this year--pineapple filling. It sure was good.
The Jim Shore caroler dog (on the right of the cake) is singing, "Bark, the Herald Angels Sing."
  16. We used to do a birthday cake for Jesus when the kids were younger. It would have been a good tradition to continue but somehow we let it slip away, I think because we had an overabundance of sweets as it was. Maybe we'll start it up again when grandkids come along. Love the blue flowers!
  27. Hi Sally, We're home and happy to be here. Our trip was wonderful and we are already wondering when we can do this again. You were right, there was lots of castles. Most of them were uninhabited. There was so much history and I loved that the best...besides the great food. HA!
    I love your Birthday cake wishes to Jesus. It is a wonderful tradition. Your family is inspiring. I mean it.
    Happy and healthy New years in 2013.
    Blessings and love,
    Jeanne
I love our weekly visits. Thank you for having us for your weekly parties! May your week and your New Year be filled with smiles. Should I find some pretty little Blue sandles for warmer weather?
    What a wonderful tradition you started with your children. The cake is beautiful, the flowers on it are so pretty. Pineapple in between must have been soooo delish. I've never had that type of filling.
    I wish you all best for 2013 and look forward to much sharing...
