Today's Blue is quite unusual. We have a propane cylinder exchange company named Blue Rhino. Here's the explanation for the name: A rhino is "tough, sturdy, and looks like a tank. And the propane flame [makes] a perfect rhino horn. ... the color Blue [is] the color of a propane flame" at its peak heat. The full explanation can be found here.
You may have seen this on the news late last Monday night:
A series of explosions rocked a central Florida propane gas plant and sent "boom after boom after boom" through the neighborhood around it. Several people were injured, with at least three critically injured. The Associated Press
Each of these 53,000 20-pound tanks exploded, making a huge fire ball. Houses shook from as far away as ten miles! Thankfully, no one was killed. The explosion was "caused either by human error or an equipment malfunction, according to local Fire Chief Richard Keith." The story can be seen here.
Happy Blue Monday!

This is so sad. We have propane at the lake but gas here at home. The gas at home always worries me more, because it is underground and connected to the house. What a shame about the explosions and I'm glad no one was hurt.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Very terrible explosions.
ReplyDeleteI have blue this week in abundance. Turquoise. Thanks for hosting Sally. Have a good week.

I stared at the body of a rhino on a safari once and what crossed my mind was that the sturdiness did look exactly like a tank.
ReplyDeleteHappy blue Monday, Sally.

Happy Blue Monday, Sally! We had an awesome blue sky today and beautiful warm temperatures, perfect for a barbecue lunch. So scary with explosions! Have a great week :)
ReplyDeleteGreetings from Australia♥ ~Pernilla
Love that blue on the propane tank!
ReplyDeleteSo sad about those critically injured in this blast.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday Sally! Such a scary story about the propane! It was a blessing that no one lost their life! We should be affected by and pray for those who go through tragedies. Thanks for reminding us.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful week.

Gas cylinders can be quite dangerous if not properly maintained or looked after. Just as well nobody was hurt.
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting, Sally.
Good one Sally! Have a great Blue Monday and glad to have you here to share all these terrific blues! Have a good day! Hugs Anne
ReplyDeleteI recall reading this article. There have been too many gas explosions all around this year. Kinda scary. Trust you are doing okay and things will be clearer.
ReplyDeleteYes, it must have been a tremendous explosion!
ReplyDeleteHi Sally, I always wondered where the name Blue Rhino came from! It is very popular here as there are few underground gas lines and we all use propane for our kitchens and gas fireplaces and even outdoor grills and camp stoves. Thanks for the reminder to be extra careful! It is an absolutely gorgeous summer day here in southern CT, much like those I remember fondly from childhood. I hope your day is wonderful too. Linda
ReplyDeleteGas can be scary. People sometimes aren't careful. My daddy was in a fire when a lawnmower exploded. He had a long recover. This was interesting. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week.
Sherry
I was loving your post... until it came to the gas explosion!
ReplyDeleteThat made it scary!
That's awful about the explosion -- I hadn't heard about it. We do use a propane tank for our bbq grill. And on a happier note, that rhino's horn is quite fun as a flame!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a scary situation. We used to use a propane tank, but now have the grill hooked up to a gas line. Thanks for hosting Blue Monday. Happy Day! ~ Sarah
ReplyDeleteWhat a frightening situation! I am happy to be joining the party today. I haven't been over here in awhile! Thank you for hosting and have a wonderful day Sally!
ReplyDeleteWow that had to be scary. I hate to think of what happened to the person who made the error. We love cooking on our gas grill in the summer. Yum BBQ!
ReplyDeleteHI Sally! Happy Blue Monday! I only cook with propane when i grill outside. I am always cautious when I do.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad no one was killed in those horrible tank explosions!

That's an interesting logo. I really don't like using the bbq because I am a bit fearful of the propane tank.

ReplyDeleteI heard about it on the news,It was tragic!Happy Blue Monday!
ReplyDeleteThere are so many tragic incidents recently.... It does make for a "Blue" Monday but I hope it can also be Blue in a calm and peaceful sense as well. Thanks for the alert. I'm featuring a lovely quilt.
ReplyDeleteHi Sally, This was garden club day and then errands and shopping for when my cousin Pat comes for her 80th birthday tomorrow. The party is Weds. and we leave for MI on Thursday. We will be gone for 9 days. Four of these days are travel days. Sigh. A very sad trip.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your prayers and kind words Sally. I appreciate it so much.
The gas explosion is awful. We do use propane in our RV and for heat in the cabin. We also use it for our gas fireplace. We have two large tanks but they are checked every time we need them filled. Oh, and grilling.
I'm glad you had a chuckle over my post. So did I. It was a hoot.
Happy Blue Monday.
Love, Jeanne
Thank goodness nobody was killed.. :O
