Blue Monday - Parade of Pirates

Hello! Welcome to Blue Monday! For complete instructions, just click here.

Please leave a comment for me; I guarantee that I'll visit and leave one for you. Visit other Blue participants by clicking on their links and leaving comments. If it's too much for one day, come back later in the week. Make someone's day when you wish them a Happy Blue Monday!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ahoy mates! Every year Tampa celebrates Gasparilla invasion by pirates with guns blasting, and parades. They've come to steal the key to the city. The mayor at first holds tight, but eventually gives up--with the request that the key be returned tomorrow. It's all in good fun, of course.
The photo below instructs the public how to dress like a pirate: "show off tattoos, tri-corner hats, fishnet stockings and puffy shirts." (source) The guns are toys. Blue is a good choice for the outer coat.
This picture shows the pirates leaving their ship. They're searching for the mayor.
Beads are thrown to the crowd.
If you look closely, you will see Blue beads around this pirates neck.
This year the crowd numbered over 200,000. This is why I do not go; I hate crowds!
Would you choose to be in the crowd?
Happy Blue Monday!
  2. Good morning Sally, I tried to link last night and your post wasn't up. I was worried about you. Now I am your first link. What a surprise. A good surprise though.
    Pirates day in Tampa looks like a fun time. They go all out don't they? As for me, I would not attend anything with a crowd like that. Yikes! I am bot happy in big crowds. My children and husband would all be there having a ball though.
    Have a very good Blue Monday day my sweet friend.
    Love,
    Jeanne
  3. Hi Sally
    Looks fun and busy, and yes I'm sure I'd be right in the middle of the crowd heave ho ma hearty and all that! I'm not sure you'd like the crowds at the Aussie Open though although once you are seated it's fine!
  9. Hi Sally. I never join in with crowds or even large groups. Watching Special Events on TV is just fine with me. Thanks Sally for Blue Monday today. Love joining in.
  10. Sally, it looks like fun, but I'm not one to go to things that generate huge crowds. I'd rather watch from afar.
    Happy Blue Monday! Thanks for hosting.
  11. Pirates Day in Tampa looks like fun, Sally! I enjoyed seeing these photos form the event. I don't mind crowds all that much. Having lived most my life in NYC I am used to them...lol! Happy Blue Monday!
  14. Hi Sally,
    Hastings, on the UK South Coast, has a Pirate Festival every year too. Like you I tend to avoid these events these days as they're just so busy! Having to use my wheelchair in a crowd is not a great. Glad you found some great images to show us though :-)
    Have a great week,
    Sarah
  15. Hi Sally, I came over too early last night and forgot to post until later today. Glad I caught you here! We had a similar experience this past September in the town here I leave, Northglenn. It was a weekend long pirate fest! Sweet photos. Have a great week. Hugs!
