Early Bird or Night Owl?

Isn't it funny how we fall into habits--comfortable habits? Johnny bounces out of bed at 5:00--every morning--without any alarm clock! He's learned to be quiet. The poor man married someone who believes that morning does not happen until the sun comes up and then, comes up slooowly and quietly. Shh.

All of my working life, I climbed out of bed at 5:30 in order to make it to work on time. High school teachers must report early. It is said that you will adapt. Well, I never got used to it.

Now, if left alone, I get up around 7:30 and head for my Mac computer. Johnny makes a fresh pot of coffee and brings me a cup. Ah, yes, I AM spoiled!

It should be no surprise that at night, Johnny is often ready to go to sleep much before I am. He's worn out.

I like to watch Jay Leno.

Which are you? An early bird or a night owl?

  1. I have become quite the night owl since I retired. I enjoy staying up and watching TV, something I just didn't have time for when I was working, but there are days when I am a early bird like today. My husband makes me coffee in the morning too ♥ We are blessed! I hope you have a lovely day!

  2. Well, I'm an early bird because I get up during the week at 5:15 AM to see Brittany off to school. HOWEVER, I could stand to sleep in longer. I'm just so pooped throughout the day!

  3. I'm a night owl for sure. Wish I could go to bed earlier!

  5. LOL...I really can't say, I love staying up late, but also love getting up early and just watching the lovely sunrise, also feel like I get more done when I get up early, BUT...I also hate to go to bed, like to paint late at night and in the early morning hour when most people sleep. I can be either on any given day. Don't sleep alot.

  6. Hi Sally...I've always been an early riser, but I'm rising ridiculously earlier all of the time...usually around 4 AM...Boo!
I can't seem to sleep much longer than 4-5 hours...I guess I need to get more exercise during the day...

  7. If you are a night owl.. .then so am I... but my 12 year old is more what I would call a night owl... to bed at 2 or 3 am... up by noon... but now that she's a grown-up... she's forcing herself to be on my nightowl schedule...

Ricky... earlybird... he'd love your hubby... same schedule...

  8. I am definitely a night owl if left to my own devices, but I have learned to get up at 5 a.m.

What a nice husband to make and bring you coffee!

  9. I'm an early bird but not by choice....my dogs wake me up at about 5:15 EVERY morning to go outside to do their business. On weekends I occasionally go back to sleep but most times I am unable. I wouldn't say I was ever a night owl though either. My perfect sleep pattern would be from about 10:00 pm to 8:00 am....THAT sounds heavenly!

  10. I am definitely an early bird! I feel my best if I go to bed early and get up early. And I like the quiet time to myself before everyone else gets up. If I stay up late, I feel like I'm hung over the next day. Luvpilot is the opposite. He usually comes to bed about 2-3 hours before I get up. Which actually made it nice when we had babies because he could do the night feedings!

  11. I don't know. I get up early. Still, my brain isn't working yet. I don't smile, laugh or talk much until around ten in the morning. I go to bed early. I'm a between person. I don't fit exactly anywhere. My husband is ready to go early in the morning. Then, he peters out later.

  12. I'm both lol I sit up late every night. I'm usually in bed by 1:00 am and then I get up every morning around 5...without an alarm clock either :) I think the latest I sleep in is 6:30 and that's if I'm not feeling well. Happy Tuesday Sally ♥

  13. Since hubby has to be up at 4:30, we do go to bed early. He's out 20 seconds after his head hits the pillow. I don't fall asleep for several hours. I DO NOT get up when he does. I do usually get up by 7:30.

  15. I am neither right now. When I was younger I slept late and went to bed late. Now....I get up at 6:00 a.m.ish and can't wait to get in the bed at night! Sometimes I will sleep later on the weekends. My husband does not understand how I can sleep soooo much. Oh well, what can I say. I LOVE TO SLEEP.

  16. Sally, I used to be a late-nighter--and never missed Johnny Carson (way back when)... I have never been a 'morning person'---but as I've gotten older, I've established a go to bed about 11 p.m. and get up about 7:30 a.m. schedule. The good news for us is that because we are retired, we don't HAVE to get up early if we don't want to. SO---no alarm clocks, thank goodness.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  17. That's a hard one, Sally... I'm both at times. I don't need coffee to get up, but lately, I've been a horrible night owl with insomnia... and sleeping disgustingly late. My days and nights got a wee bit mixed up last summer and has gotten worse with the time change.

THink I'll go take a nap now. LOL!

    XO,

    Sheila :-)

  18. Our bedtime is around 10:30 and we get up between 6:00 and 6:30. Sometimes Charlotte stays in bed until 7:00. The big difference in the two of us is that she gets up smiling and sometimes singing. I don't usually have a smile on my face or a song on my heart until around 10:00.

  20. I'm like Sheila----I'm both. It just depends on what is happening in my life.

If 'things' are just rolling along, without deadlines, I fall asleep early and could sleep until 7:30. When I have a project or company coming or a sale, I'm up until the wee hours of the morning, then I catch a few hours of sleep and I rise and shine around 5:30 or 6:00 a.m.. When the rush is over--I crash for a couple of days. I've always operated like that.

What a great and interesting post idea!

I love your bowl your daughter gave you (that you featured on B.Mon!)

Hope you're having a great week! Dana

  21. Hello, I am early bird, wake up at 6am although there is no need for me to go anywhere so early (I go in school afternoon usually). I love to wake very early, because then I can do almost all thing from my "to-do" kist. Actually, I have a dream to sleep:) only 3 hours per day - it is amazing how many things would be done, how many projects'd be finished, books readed and so on. But, I do not work (student), may be when I will be work it will be different..

  22. I cannot go to sleep early no matter what. It's almost like I'm afraid I'm going to miss something. I've had a sleeping problem ever since becoming a flight attendant and working extremely early, or extremely late, flights, and adjusting to time zones. Yawnnnn* _Ashley*

  23. Oh, Sally girl...I can just see you all cuddled under covers, asleep, while J. is trying his best not to awaken you!
I am most often in bed by 8, watch a little tv and am asleep by 9...as my body only requires 6 hrs of sleep, I am often...VERY often wide awake by 3 or 3:30....I just get up, make coffee and head to my computer! Now, all this being said...I TAKE A REST/NAP EVERY SINGLE DAY!! It's good for the soul !!

  24. I am just like you Sally! Rick is just like Johnny too. I need to move back to Florida and Rick and Johnny can sneak out and golf before the sun comes up while we slowly wake up. We would just be ready for breakfast by the time they finished their round. lol

  25. Sad to say that I go to bed early and get up late! I like to have about 11-12 hours in bed. Granted I don't sleep that entire time, but I do enjoy stretching out in bed. When I do have to get up early, it's bad news. Sally

  26. How nice of you getting spoiled. Dh has no idea how to make coffee since he does not drink any...lol. I am definitely a night owl, I sit up so late in front of the computer. There is no broach, Sally. The gold thing you see on top of the box is attached to it. It's an embellishment or decoration, I guess....Christine

  27. Unfortunately, I am a night owl, as you probably know. But I cannot stand Jay Leno, don't like his sense of humor.

  28. I am such an early bird--always have been. I'm up at 5ish before the alarm every day. My husband is the family night owl.

Thats so sweet that Johnny gets your coffee for you...
I am not sure what I am...I enjoy the morning and I'm up about 6:10 each workday morning. I am fully able to run about and do all kinds of chores before heading out at 7:15 to start work at 7:30... I tend to get a bit tired or could be sluggish at some point after lunch...but I always get a second wind. I love the evenings and don't get to bed until sometime after 11 during the week and we're up later on the weekend.
Soooo..I love the mornings and the nights...maybe I could have a siesta for an hour in the afternoon.
hope you've had a good day.
