It's summer and it's hot! With our tough economy, some people will take any job to earn a couple of bucks. We have folks dressed up and standing by the side of the road, trying to catch the attention of those driving by. I call them Roadside Salesmen. Look what I spotted while driving around in Tampa.
The only Blue in this picture is the beautiful sky. This fellow is fake, so he's not minding the heat, but we have plenty of REAL Roadside Salesmen.
This happy lady is showing off her Blue while she entices people to buy some lunch. Notice that gallon of water on the sidewalk just behind her.
Here we have some Blue, but you must look carefully. No, it's not Pluto; it's the fellow dressed like a Mexican hiding behind his shady sign and under the umbrella. See his Blue shirt? Both of these people are real, I assure you!
I never noticed Roadside Salesmen when I lived in South Florida.
I wonder, if this is peculiar in just my area, or if you see Roadside Salesmen where you live.

I'd be melting too if I were to stand under the sun that long.
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday! :)

I live in Southern California and we have those everywhere! I moved here a few years ago from the East Coast. I've lived up and down the East Coast and had never seen any of those roadside salesmen until I moved here. It's not a job I would enjoy, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteI see a lot of that back here. There are also those who hand out flyers.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday Sally!
Mine is here.
Wow Sally,,,love the surf board!!!
ReplyDeleteBlessings and Hugs Dena
I can imagine how hot it is, standing all day there, then i guess its phuuu....
ReplyDeleteWow, that's really a hard work wearing mascots... Happy Blue Monday!
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see those road side salesmen I wonder how they do it. Sometimes they are wearing costumes that must be so uncomfortable after a while. They often seem so happy too! I really don't think I could do it, or at least only be able to do it for a very short time. Happy Blue Monday Sally! Thanks for a great party!!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Susan and Bentley

First time I'm joining in, not sure how I found the link about Blue Monday, but Happy I did..... I would hate to be the Mascot in that heavy Puppy Suit ~ I hope he had a fan inside there.
ReplyDeleteCheryl
This new road-side salesperson persona is a riot.....today we drove by a house that was having yard sale and out along the street stood a guy with a chicken hat waving at people to stop.....whatever it takes, I guess.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't be my first choice--You'd have to have such a positive attitude! Jacqueline
ReplyDeleteHello Sally, it is late and I will be on the road early so this is a rush.
ReplyDeleteI love your cute ads and road signs. Especially when it involves real people. I too could never tolerate this kind of a job.
Happy blue Monday. I will be in touch when I return home.
Hugs, Jeanne
I can imagine how hot it is there especially inside those costumes....Christine
ReplyDeleteI always feel sorry for those people. Seems kind of humiliating, but at least they're gainfully employed.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday!!!
ReplyDeleteWow ! Poor Mascot in Puppy Suit must be steaming inside..By the way Happy Blue Monday and have a great start for this week : )
ReplyDeleteI am curious to how the California Tacos taste? What makes the tacos different from Florida tacos??
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday...
Ann
you´ve got a lot of funstuff over there. :)
ReplyDeletewOW! They are quite a man!!! They can take the heat of the sun that long.
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful blue sky ~ happy, happy blue Monday, Sally!
ReplyDeleteHello sally! The Learning Center is joining your exciting Blue Monday meme. One of our homeschoolers is so in-love with blue so that makes it more fun joining you.
ReplyDeleteIt's good to see interesting sights from your side of the world.
I'm sorry about this Sally, but I find it so demeaning and feel that these people's rights are violated knowing they are set under the heat of the sun wearing all those out of this world costume... but just then, your blue is perfect...
ReplyDeleteLovely characters.
ReplyDeleteGlad to be here again.. See my Blue Monday Post.. you will be amazed with the Blue Live Statue
ReplyDeleteIt must be tough wearing those in your North American heat. Over here in Scotland we have one car sales room that has someone dressed up every weekend and I always feel a little pity for him as even in our dull summers it can get pretty hot in there. I know that I was in a marquee on Saturday and it felt like I was in a poly bag never mind being in one of those suits - the sweat must pour down their skin.
ReplyDeleteThis is my first submission Sally after visting you last week. :) Rosie
My entry is on my Centre of Interest photoblog
Hello- I just linked up for my very first Blue Monday!
ReplyDeleteSeveral of the blogs I follow do this one and I thought it would be fun!
Hugs- Tete
My favourite is the last one - blue pants and blue heaven :)

I have something cold:-)
ReplyDeleteHi Sally,
ReplyDeleteToday is the first anniversary of my first Blue Monday blog post!!
Thanks for hosting this great meme, one of my favourites to join in and also to visit.
Maggie
I'm glad I don't have to dress up in a costume in this hot weather to go to work.
ReplyDeleteWow, I admire them for being able to bare the heat. I won't be able to do that myself. we have those too but they're not wearing costumes... :p
ReplyDelete-rache
hAPPY bLUE mONDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing more beautiful or happier than a BLUE BLUE sky!
ReplyDeleteHappy BLUE Monday!
Coralie
Hi Sally,
ReplyDeleteOh those costumes must be hot, especially this time of year! I give those people a lot of credit for trying to earn a living however they can!
Cindy
This would be a tough job especially in summer thinking it would be so warm underneath those mascot.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday Sally and a blessed week ahead! :)
Happy Blue Monday, dear Sally. I miss you.
ReplyDeleteRoadside salesmen in this heat have a tough job. I always think about that when I see them, and I do see them around here.
I don't think I can do the job either. I get bad headache standing in the sun..
ReplyDeleteI admire those people for doing such hard work. Lots of blue there and my favourite is the last one.
ReplyDeleteHappy Blue Monday
Neat shots! We have roadside salesmen around here, too, but usually not in costumes. They mostly just do sign twirling (dangerously close to the traffic, it always seems to me). I hope that guy in the dog outfit is getting paid a LOT of money!
ReplyDeleteThat is one crazy job! Like human billboards...I imagine a person needs a lot of stamina to do this. Have a wonderful week.
ReplyDeleteWe certainly see the poor, melting, unhappy roadside sales people in our area. They must be desperate and out of "real" work.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodnesss I hope we don't have any in this heat of 103degrees.We do have plenty of cool shelters, hope they find them. Your characters are pretty interesting. Ann
ReplyDeleteI had to visit even though I just couldn't find any blues to share this week. My weekend was very full
ReplyDeleteof all colors but blue, apparently.
I checked my pictures! lol
So...about these roadside salespeople..they are popping up around here too. Mostly out on business Route 30 to announce a sale or store closing. Not so much in character.
Becky K.
Good morning Sally, I guess you have to stand the heat to make a few bucks..I see some people doing this around our town..have a great day..Baba
ReplyDeleteWe have all kind standing in places here. Even in this 106 degree heat. Some of them are not doing advertising, they are beggars. I am not too trusting of these.
ReplyDeleteOh I can't EVEN imagine how HOT it would be to stay outside doing that job. I couldn't handle it AT ALL! The only time I want to be outside right now is in a pool, preferrebly shaded!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe only have one of those around here. It is at a tax office and around tax season they dress up as Uncle Sam.
Stay cool Sally!
Being in the elements all day, I would consider a miserable job, but some may like it . Great Pics !
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
~Myrna
You must live in such a fun place. In our area, you rarely see sights like this. My grandchildren would love it. Thanks for hosting blue monday and always making me smile. ~~Sherry~~
ReplyDeleteThey seem to be growing in popularity. I can't imagine standing outside all day in any weather condition. SE Michigan is having a hot, humid summer and most costumes look like they'd be dangerous in the heat.
ReplyDeleteWe have 'roadside salesmen' in Colorado, too. We have one on the street we travel every day that is a hoot! He dances, bops around, waves and sings. Everyone in town knows him and admires his stamina. Sally
ReplyDeletemy first time to join here.Happy Blue Monday!
ReplyDeleteSally,
ReplyDeleteLove your little splash of fun blue!
Thanks for hosting. Have a super week!

I live in Northern California and yes, we have road side sales people here as well. A lot of sign holders who strut their stuff enticing people to try their products. We have a Domino's Pizza sign spinner here who is actually quite good. He's been featured on the news with his talent! Tough work, but we do what we have to do! Marcia
ReplyDeleteThat must be the 'hottest' job around with these HOT HOT temperatures..........I've seen a few here for some Pizza places. I too felt sorry for those poor kids baking in the sun. Thanks for sharing your Blue Monday...... have a great day!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi sally!
ReplyDeleteYes I see them on nearly every corner here in the Denver metro area..
advertising everything under the sun..
both literally and figuratively!
from the earliest of hours until after dark!!
have a super day!
hugs..
Loui♥
My kids loves to play mario and yeah I saw the blue shirt hehehe mine is up and its here thanks http://www.mjoannafaith.com/2010/08/blue-monday-6-blue-pool.html
ReplyDeleteHi Most Smiling One!! Yep, we've got 'em too! Especially in the Houston area!! This doesn't make me want to shop more in their shops, does it you?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for asking about my mom! She is doing well. She still has a little pain in the arm and shoulder she broke, but we knew she wouldn't be able to live by herself anymore. We found a really nice retirement home about 5 min. from our house and she has the cutest little one bedroom apartment there! It was a God send to find this.
You're a sweetie, Sally,
Shelia ;)
Wow, I'm perspiring just looking at them! Happy Blue Monday, Mary :O)
ReplyDeleteThis is my first Blue Monday so thank you for hosting this wonderful party! Around tax season in Florida people would dress up as the Statue of Liberty and dance like fools on the sidewalks outside each branch. I loved them. You couldn't pay me enough to do it then but especially not in this heat!!
ReplyDeleteI would never want to be one of those people holding signs, especially in the summer heat. I've always wondered about the ones around us, how often do they suffer from heat stroke. However, my son would go for the Mario shot. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhew, what a hot job! We have them here, too, in So California.
ReplyDeleteNo, we don´t have many of them here in Norway.
ReplyDeleteYou really look hard for your blue don't you?? I always feel sorry for those sign holders during these hot summer months. Have a great week Sally!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea for a collection!!!!
ReplyDeleteNow, when is the book coming out!!!!!!!!!!
Hi Sally!
ReplyDeleteSo I am so late in posting my Blue Monday today...
Great post as always and how DO they stand out in this gross heat, especially the Pluto character???
I too always feel so bad for them, but I must say I haven't seen any since this heat wave has been on...
Hugs,
Lynn♥
i would be melting too.. as i couldnt stand being under the sun just for a few minutes.. but they are cute :)
ReplyDeleteI haven't been here in so long! I have no idea why. Love that beautiful photo in your header. This does look like such a hot job. I've seen a few with signs in Memphis, but not many in costume. That has to be horribly hot. In this economy, I guess people will suffer the heat to be able to buy something to eat. laurie
ReplyDeleteHi Sally,
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to pop in and say hi! I have been really struggling with being committed to blogging, but I remember how much I enjoyed it!
Hope all is well with you! :)
we see this occasionally but not often....especially right now..they would seriously pass out!!
ReplyDeleteif we have roadside salesmen wearing those funny costumes here in the Philippines, they might suffer heat stroke then...
ReplyDeletewell, those pictures are nice especially the California Tacus..hehe
thanks for the visit Sally...
Yes, we do see them here, and I have wondered how they survive in the heat as well. I have also wondered if they really bring in extra business.
ReplyDeleteWe have road side scalesmen here too. I wouldn't last long in that job either. It's way to hot and some of those costrumes are way to heavy and hot.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Subway guy the other day so I guess they have them here in Georgia too :)
ReplyDeleteHi Sally, I am home to stay with nothing planned until October. Sigh! I am ready for a rest. this summer has been a bit crazy busy. Nothing new around here. HA! I have missed you and I hope we can talk next Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well with you and yours. I feel like it is an age since I have visited you.
When I was in TN I decorated Andrea's bedroom. She loves the change. Thank you for your kind comments about her surgery. She is improving slowly. She can drive now so I felt she would be ok if I leave her and come home.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Hugs, Jeanne
I have seen many roadside salesmen dresses in different garbs They must rost in some of the outfits..just like a suna. Ha
ReplyDeleteEnjoy looking at new blog and all the blue you have posted.
