~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I spotted this picture of a lifesize balloon of a Blue whale in the newspaper. St. Pete is about an hour drive from our home, so off we went to take some pictures for you! We got there around 10:00 AM.
The Great Whale Conservancy, a group dedicated to moving shipping lanes to reduce ship strikes to whales, inflated a large 90-foot balloon Blue whale in North Straub Park, Monday, November 3, 2014 to promote the upcoming Blue Ocean Film Festival, St. Petersburg. The festival begins Monday and runs through November 9 with films and events at the Mahaffey Theater, Sundial 20, USF St. Petersburg Student Center Ballroom, and Vinoy Grand Ballroom. For information, go to blueoceanfilmfestival.org.                                                                                     SCOTT KEELER | TIMES
Here's a picture of the Mahaffey Theater. The clerk on duty told us that the Blue whale balloon is only inflated in the afternoons at the adjacent North Straub Park and is deflated and taken inside each evening!
A close-up of the Blue banner.
This is a shady part of North Straub Park.
Here's a prettier part of the park. I would imagine that they would place the Blue balloon here.
(sigh) At least the sky is Blue, and the water is Blue! Why, even the sign is part Blue!
Happy Blue Monday!
  2. This looks like a wonderful cause to help the Blue Whales survive being hit by large shipping vessels. Whales are endangered so every little bit helps! Happy Blue Monday!
  6. Shame you missed the balloon, but it's a pretty place to be, regardless. I was there earlier this year and enjoyed a few strolls through that park.
  13. I am glad this blue whale is a balloon. Would not not like to see a real one this size. Your part of the world has many interesting sights. I made my trip okay, but there is no place like home.
  14. Good morning Sally. My blue is small today amongst all the pieces of wood but it is there in two places, a Beswick vase and a shelf of misc. blue china and ornaments. Sunshine today and frost of the roof tops.
  26. Lovely post by a lovely lady. You made me smile today, in a way you probably didn't even intend. I noticed "Love is Blue" in your sidebar and it gave me a beautiful trip down memory lane to one of my favorite songs as a little girl. I will be singing it all day and thinking of you. :)
