Remember the Bible sword drills? Middle school age children would stand at attention. A verse would be called out by the teacher, and they'd flip through their Bibles to find and read the verse. Some of those students were quite adept at knowing how to use their Bibles. It took practice, and we all know that practice still makes perfect.

Yep, I remember sword drills. The cartoon is a funny take on it.
Ha--cute cartoon, Sally. Yes--I remember the Sword Drills. But--since I was a Methodist and not a Baptist, we didn't have them. One thing is for sure: the Baptists learned their Bible verses much more than us Methodists!!!!

Sally, I am going to send this to my daughter. She is in charge of Bible Drill for her church in Nashville. I also remember my days of Bible drill, too. I'm afraid that I wouldn't be as fast at it as I was 50 yrs ago!

Thats a cute cartoon but he like I didn't know about these drills. I can well imagine some students becoming very fluent in finding the passages through this type of drill.

I remember those drills. My Bible had a zipper. I still have that Bible, given to me in 1955. For many years it still held pressed carnations from Easter. I always borrowed a Bible without a zipper for the drills, because they were easier to find the books and open the Bible, quickly...or at least quicker. Sometimes I was quicker than other times.

I didn't have a chance to attend much Sunday School when I was in grade school so I missed out on a lot but I made sure that my children didn't!

We use to have to memorize our book paragraph by paragraph in french no less.Wish I could have that book today I can still picture it in my mind.

I remember those drills.
I never went to church as a child so this was an experience I never had, but I really liked hearing about it. I sounds like it was not only fun, but profitable!
I grew up Catholic so I didn't know about it. I'm afraid I'd fail right now.
