On October 11, a softball-size, Blue eyeball washed ashore in South Florida. Wildlife officials determined the source likely came from a swordfish.

They based their conclusion on the eyeball's color, size, and structure, along with the presence of bone around it.

Swordfish are commonly fished at this time of year in the Florida Straits offshore of South Florida where the huge eyeball turned up.

"It was probably from a swordfish around 200 to 250 pounds," explained Kevin Baxter of the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute. "To give you an idea, the record caught in Florida is 612 pounds."

In fact, swordfish can reach 1,000 pounds.

Researchers think a fisherman cut out the eye and simply threw it overboard.
