Maggie's son has diabetes, and she works hard to help him. Here's Maggie in a Blue shirt and Blue shoes. She helps her son stay as healthy as possible by growing their own food; in addition, Maggie breeds border collies. She trained Ace to be a service dog for her son.
There is a specific scent on the human breath that relates to a rapid drop in blood sugar levels. Ace is trained to alert her son when his numbers are off.
Here's a close-up of Ace at an archery competition. Note the Blue targets in the background. In addition, note Ace's beautiful Blue eyes and his Blue leash.

Thank you so much for this post Sally. Service dogs are amazing.
As a type II diabetic striving to control primarily through diet, I salute this mom for her devotion to the well being of her child.
What a very special mother. What she did is wonderful and need more like her. That little doggie eyes are beautiful. You do a great job finding such interesting blues each week.
What a beautiful dog! Even more so as he is a working dog.

This is my third attempt to leave a comment - Have only vaguely heard about this service and not sure how many there are in this country.
Sally, thought I'd left a comment, but must not have gone through. Yes, indeed, I adore that wonderful service dog. I have a friend whose husband uses a trained dog to help alert him for his diabetes. Amazing that these animals have this ability. Adore Ace's blue eyes.
Yes, my blue is at the end of my post today. ;-)
This dog looks like a beautiful character. Such appealing eyes.
Hi Sally,
What wonderful blue eyes he has! Dogs have a very acute sense of smell and can detect if someone's blood sugar is high or low. They can also predict epileptic fits and even smell cancer!! If I didn't live in a flat I would definitely have put my name on the waiting list for an assistance dog here in the UK.
Have a great week,
Sarah
Those are especially wonderful blues, Sally. Ace's eyes entranced me immediately. How wonderful that Maggie has the skills to train him for such an important task. Happy Blue Monday. Many thanks for hosting!
Love his blue eyes and thankful for a mom who cares
Hi Sally, Bill's sister left today and I have spent the rest of the day trying to catch up with everything I have neglected. LAUNDRY AND CLEANING.
We did have a wonderful visit though. They left very late this morning because they will stay the night in Kentucky. Not a long ride. Finally some time to myself. It has been weeks!!!
The service dog is so handsome and this mom is outstanding the way she helps her son. He must have childhood diabetes and that is so hard to deal with. My great niece has it and she is so active that it is hard to keep her sugar in control.
Happy Blue Monday,
Love, Jeanne
PS: I can't believe your Blog anniversary will be here in Sept. Wow, you are so faithful to your blog party.
Oh my what a beautiful dog, those eyes! It is awesome that the kiddo
has a very trusted service dog and friend to help him.
That is so wonderful that her son has a dog to monitor his diabetes. Very nice blue!
Sally, I have never seen such blue eyes on any animal and certainly not on a dog! The dog is gorgeous and must be so helpful to her son. Thank you for sharing this amazing story with us! Dogs truly are man's best friend. Linda
Wow, I love those blue eyes on that doggie! A helper too, I'm sure her son loves him.
