Happy Birthday America!

For a fantastic 4th of July video Click on the window. .

We gather ‘round to celebrate
On Independence Day
Pay homage to our country
As the children run and play.

With barbecues and picnics
And fireworks in the air
The flag we own is proudly flown
To show how much we care.

The stars and stripes spell freedom
She waves upon the breeze
While bursts of colors can be seen
Above the towering trees.

This is all quite wonderful
We revel in delight
But God above in divine love
Has brought this day to light.

With just a stroke of liberty
A touch of His great hand
He gave democracy to us
And helped this country stand.

The stripes upon our stately flag
Were touched by His sweet grace
Each star of white that shines so bright
Reflects His loving face.

So as you turn to face the flag
For battles that were fought
Be filled with pride for those who died
And freedoms that were bought.

But don’t forget to thank the One
That gives the bright display
The reason why we paint the sky
On Independence Day

Booking Through Thursday - Holidays

It’s a holiday weekend here in the U.S., so let’s keep today’s question simple–What are you reading? Anything special? Any particularly juicy summer reading?

I am reading Skid by Rene Gutteridge. As a humorous look at airline pilots, it's perfect for a summer read. Can you imagine, flying in an airplane with these passengers: Lucy, a woman reading and quoting Secret to help her get over her ex is sitting next to Hank, a not-too-bright airline industry spy; a handcuffed convict who flirts with the aging flight attendant; a man transporting diamonds; and a pig--yep! a PIG! All of this is wrapped around a pilot's final flight. I'm halfway through, chuckling as I read.

Look What God Did In Our Backyard!

Trees

I THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the sweet earth's flowing breast;

A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;

A tree that may in summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;

Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.

Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.

I have been tagged...

It's meme time! I was tagged by Charli and me

"The rules of the game get posted at the beginning. Each player answers the questions about themselves. At the end of the post, the player then tags 5 people and posts their names, then goes to their blogs and leaves them a comment, letting them know they've been tagged. Let the person who tagged you know when you've posted your answer."

1) What were you doing 5 years ago?
Five years ago I was recovering from the second surgery for a torn achilles tendon on my right leg. It was six weeks after the first surgery, and I had fallen and reinjured it. I was on a leave from my job as a high school English teacher. Every day I was on the telephone making lesson plans and advising my substitute. All day I either watched TV, read, or spoke on the telephone to family and friends. I was bedridden!

2) What are 5 things on your to-do list for today?
For Wednesday, July 2nd:
Make my breakfast, make my bed, and straighten the house.
I need to run the dishwasher and empty it.
I want to work on my computer, doing my emails and my blog.
I want to color my hair; it seems that God is racing me to frost it!
Then, I'll have to do my nails because the hair dye ruins them.

3) What five snacks do you enjoy?
Baskin & Robbins Pralines 'n Cream Ice Cream
Fritos
Apples
Rice Krispies Treats
Celery (honest, I like it!)

4) What five things would you do if you were a billionaire?
Give a chunk to my church.
Purchase a larger house so that the entire family can visit as often as they'd like.
Give a chunk to each of my two children.http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif
Establish trust accounts for each of the seven grandchildren's college educations.
Get some toys for my husband, like a Rolls in every color.

5) What are five jobs you've had?

Housewife
Weight Watcher Lecturer
High School Secretary/Library Clerk
Teacher

I am tagging the following five people...
