I probably should be ashamed to admit it, but I've never recycled before. It was a bit confusing. We didn't have any separate containers and would have had to cart our recycibles to the designated location, about a ten-minute drive.

However, in our new home, we were given two recycling bins from the county: one green for plastics and one blue for papers. Empty water bottles go into the green bin, but little else because I refuse to waste water by rinsing out other plastics. We live in a state with a drought, and water costs $$.

Since we get the newspaper each day, we seem to fill up the blue bin more quickly.

Isn't it fun to help the environment with such a pretty color? Do you recycle?

Most people on our block recycle. This is our offering for this past Friday's pickup.

Happy Blue Monday!
P.S. Please forgive me for getting Mr. Linky up so late!

Yes recycling's part of our lives too, but we haven't got water restrictions, thank goodness. The bin is a lovely blue, anyway.

We have a recycling dumpster to take all our paper too and we take our cans to the aluminum plant...Happy Blue Monday Sally!

Yup! We only have one earth so we should take care of it! :) Have you heard of Earth Hour? On March 27, turn off all your lights from 8:30-9:30PM. Join the world in conserving energy! Happy Blue Monday everyone! My Blue Monday's here!

Good for you for finally doing the recycling thing. It feels good, doesn't it, to keep all that stuff out of the landfill and help conserve resources? Love the blue bin!

Lovely blue colour on that plastic bin! Yes, recycling is a part of our lives here in Sweden too.

But since we have a wood-burning stove in the country, we can burn a lot of paper and keep warm at the same time.

My post is about the change of the weather and season.

Happy Blue Monday, Sally!

Happy Blue Monday! This is my first visit and I am so excited. I live in the country so we are not required to use recycling bins, but doesn't mean we don't recycle.

Recycling is quite big in Australia and my kids are quite diligent with it. I am so glad that it will be second nature for this younger generation to recycle.

Thanks for having me this week Sally and best wishes for a lovely week,
Natasha.

I remember teaching my kids to look for the triangle on the bottom of plastics... they were so proud when they were the ones to find it and stick it in the bin.We lived in a city then and recycling was easier, curbside pickup, etc. We live out in the country now...it's a little more time-consuming...but so worth it!!! Happy Blues,Sally:)

We've been recycling for at least 30 years, and I do agree that it is a wonderful cause.

We can recycle plastics, cans, cardboard, glass and paper. We used to be provided separate bins similar to what you have, but now they provide a very large container with wheels that you put on your curb for pickup every two weeks. Ours is full every time.

Hi. I just found your blog...I'm excited to participate in Blue Monday...as soon as I think of something blue... :)

We have a nifty recycling system in the county where we live. The trash people give us two receptacles - one for garbage, one for recyclables. We don't have to sort the recyclables at all...just dump it all in together. It makes it so much easier to be Earth conscious!

margene said...

Yay! for recycling and everyone should be taught the good things about recycling goods. Nice one!

We don't get the paper because of how quickly it stacks up...but I think as much as that it is a time issue. I don't have time to read it as I would like. So...computer headlines and News channels keep me up to date.

Happy recycling!

Good morning Sally. Yes, we recycle but it nothing organized. I do not have containers and 'no' pick up is the way it is in the mountains. We drive 14 miles to the garbage dumpsters and we take our garbage and recycle items there every time we drive to town. My recycles go in grocery bags and are stacked in the garage. Very messy but it is easier than dealing with bins that take up too much room in the car. I do love the idea of bins and maybe I will buy a nice blue one to put the bags in. It can then keep the garage neater. However, I confess that our garage is a nightmare of boxes etc, etc, etc. I need to call that TV show...CLEAN HOUSE for our garage. My house is always clean and neat though. HA!

Please let us know about your Dr. report Sally. I hope you are feeling well.
Prayers and hugs to you today and always.
Jeanne

Oh my goodness, your recycling bins are so small! We have huge trash can type bins here in the Pacific Northwest and yes Recycling is HUGE here! We have a small trash can for trash a bigger trash bin for recycle and a huge bin for yard waste.

Debbiedoos said...

Happy Blue Monday Sally!~ We used to have those blue recycle bins too in Florida. Now we have this huge garbage can, so recycling is made easier and done all the time:)

Hi Sally, This was such an interesting post. We actually get 3 newspapers a day during the week and 2 on the weekends. We have an excellent recycling program in our town. The containers are as big as our trash can, so they can accommodate lots of paper and cardboard as well as a separate one for cans, glass and plastic. We also compost. At first it was confusing, but now we think twice before we throw anything away. The Jersey Shore is so densely populated that it is really necessary to think these things through, just like your choice for how you use your water...gives us something to think about.
♥, Susan

Sadly our town isn't concious about recycling. I don't even think there is anywhere to do it around this small town. I think it would be wonderful if we did.

Hope you are having a great Monday.♥

Yes, we have to recycle here as well. We used to have bins like yours, but now we have large ones on wheels. Our recycle bin is blue, trash one is brown. The city rules are very strict and they will fine you if you do not adhere to the them. We only have one pickup per week.

Recycling makes me feel like I'm really a good caretaker of what God has given us. It took our county until last year to offer recycling-we were behind everyone else. Our bins are not pretty blue like yours though.

I have always recycled in one way or another..mostly by reusing, or repurposing.
It is rather easy to fill the paper container..all the cardboard packaging on products, pizza boxes, magazines..the list is endless..
plastics are another issue..
soda bottles,deli containers..
(I keep a pan of water in the sink for rinsing these things)
we also put glass and metal cans in along with the plastics..
by the time trash pickup day arrives, there is very little "household stuff" and our recycling pickup is once a month..so my wheeled ginormous cart is filled to the brim..
warmest hugs, laughing smiles..

Hi Sally...

Eeeks...wished that I could say that we recycle, but we don't! However, we live way out in the country and these kind of services aren't offered! Hehe! I will say though...I hardly ever have plastic bottles and we don't get the newspaper! So really we are saving the environment in our "own little way"! Hehe!

Thank you so much for hosting Blue Monday for us, my friend! I enjoyed participating today!!!

Have a marvelous Blue Monday!

About 10 or 15 years ago it became mandatory to recycle in our little town. We started out with those little bins like you use. Now, they're great big ol bins with lids on them. Blue for paper, glass, etc. Green for grass clippings, small branches and the like. And then there's gray for plain ol' trash. It's always the dirtiest bin :( They send 3 separate trucks by our house on trash day to pick up the different barrels and dump them. Can't be cost effective.
Happy Blue Monday, Sally~

Recycling is a huge part of our lives... I don't even use my clothes dryer much --so save energy. We also don't use AC much--but we don't live in FL. We don't have a water problem --so we do recycle our plastics, our newspapers, and cardboard and soda cans... We are constantly trying to find ways to help the environment and preserve energy... We use reusable grocery bags... I could go on and on... Guess most of us can come up with all kinds of excuses NOT to recycle....

There aren't many folks on your street recycling, are there????
Hugs,
Betsy

Our bins are large and on wheels. We purchase our own small containers for in the house and then take them outside to the large container that goes to the curb. We put the green garbage container out once a week. The recycled material is picked up weekly but we only put ours out about once or maybe twice a month.

Good thing yoru county is giving away recycle bin in each household, that makes easy to recylcel, just toss those stuff on the bin.

Hope you are feeling fine even it its drought.

I agree with your reasoning for not recycling. I don't like wasting water, either. We have recycling available in our community but the company is VERY particular and limiting about what they allow you to put in the bins, so we do not recycle. I collect our magazines and old phone books and deposit them in the various recycle bins around the community.

Happy Blue Monday! (My post is finally up.)

Our recycle containers are the same size as the regular trash ones. In fact, they are just alike except they are different colors. Recycle ones are blue. We mostly recycle newpapers and magazines. We probably should quit taking the newspaper. Most of the magazines are passed on to us by our daughter. We also throw a lot of catalogs in there.
Happy Blue Monday.

I haven't had computer access for a while and won't for the rest of this week, but I am hooked up with you through prayers. Hope all went well and that you are feeling much, much better. I have some goodies for you! We missed you very, very much...

It's so cool that your community makes it so easy to recycle. We started reading the newspaper online and I miss havin' it to use for many things around the Ponderosa. I use it under my mulch as a weed barrier, I roll it up to start fires in the fireplace, under muddy boots in the mud room. Yep, wish ya'll were closer 'cause it's become a rare commodity!

Have a fun day filled with blessings from above!!!
