~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In Guilt Trip, Andie Brewster (Seth Rogen) plays the part of a milquetoast son, who takes his controlling mother, Joyce (Barbra Streisand) on a business road trip across the country. She refers to him as her "baby boy." The scene below shows one of the times he regrets that decision.
Note the Blues: the chairs, Joyce's shirt and jeans, and even the water bottle top, peeking out of Joyce's purse.
I connected to this movie as I too, have a son, who I refer to as my "baby boy," even though he is a full grown man with a wife and three grown children. I am not as overbearing as Joyce, but then, really, who is?
The film has a somewhat expected plot. However, there was one scene with a hitchhiker that did not make any sense and should have been cut.
The surprise ending had me tearing up, and tied up the storyline nicely.
☺☺☺☺☺ I found this joke on the internet. ☺☺☺☺☺
Parental Guidance
Billy Crystal and Bette Midler play Artie and Diane Decker, who are asked by their daughter, Alice (Marisa Tomei) to help care for their three grandkids while she and her husband, Phil (Tom Everett Scott) go on a trip. The youngest child, Barker (Kyle Harrison Breitkopf) is quite spoiled and unwillingly to let his mother go, as pictured here.
Note the Blues: Artie's shirt and jeans, Barker's shirt and shoes, Alice's dress, and Phil's jacket and shirt.
Although I enjoyed both films, Parental Guidance was by far my favorite. Billy Crystal is at his best. I've always enjoyed Bette Middler, and she did not disappoint.
The believable plot, the laugh-out-loud comedy, the family drama all hit home for me. In addition, a bit of sports history is intertwined. A twist at the end brought tears of joy to my eyes.
No Oscars will be awarded; it's too clean for Hollywood. However, it gets my award for Close-to-Perfect.
One young actress, Bailee Madison, who plays the part of granddaughter, Harper Simmons, turns in a terrific performance. Watch for her in future films!
Please note that in this shot of Bailee, she's wearing Blue.
A caveat: when doing research for this post, I discovered that Bailee lives in South Florida. I was not previously aware of our possible connection (I lived in South Florida for more than forty years). and I do not know her.
Do you ever go to the movies?
Happy Blue Monday!
i love movies, and i love Billy Crystal. he's a kind of actor that can make you laugh at any age. i don't go to the movies as much as i did--the last movie i saw in the theater was the latest James Bond. but there's cable and DVDs.:p
our grandma called my brother, her first grandson, Baby Bon. an endearment that stuck even when my brother has a wife and 3 kids.:p
I loved your reviews and how it tied in with your blues. Haven't been to the movies in years but I so much enjoy watching the Hallmark movies on TV. I think Billy Crystal is great and my granddaughter sings like Bette Midler! :=)
Good morning Sally, I am rushing like heck to go to a 'Garden Club' meeting.
I very much want to see both of those movies. Your review makes me want to see them even more. They are not at our theater yet.
Have a wonderful day me dear friend.
Love, Jeanne
Sally I Love your reviews! Billy Crystal wrote a book titled 700 Sundays about his father. He is such a different type of celebrity and one of my favorites as well! Happy New Year to you and all the blues! Hugs Anne
Sally,
My husband and I saw Parental Guidance a few days ago, too. We loved it! You are right, Billy Crystle was at his very best. I enjoyed Bette Midler too. Great movie!
We don't go to the movies often. I'd like to go more but my husband doesn't really care to go. But we took all the family to see The Hobbit over Christmas break. I think the last movie we saw in theaters was the Avengers.
Actually I much prefer watching them at home on DVD, but I hate the wait time until they come out that way.
We don't go to the movies very often when we are at home. However, we are spending the winter in Las Vegas and so far have seen Reacher and The Hobbit this year.
Great review of some must see movies...and great pics of the scenes with BLUES too.
We have been watching Netflix and I wonder whether they would be on there or are they only in the movies...I'll have to check that out.
Hope you've had a good day...and enjoying great weather your way. Its 30 here this evening with some wind but not new snow...so we're doing good.
enjoy this week.
I enjoyed your movie reviews, we haven't seen any of those. Last week we went to see Les Miserables, we liked it, but of course it was sad. There is a great Christian message throughout the movie though.
Thanks for visiting my Nativity post. Neat that we both have collections, and one of the same.
