While in Gainesville for our grandson's graduation, we happened upon the Tree City Quilters Guild 2013 Quilt Show. This was special because it was their 20th anniversary! The show was held at the motel where we stayed. Look at the cute faux store they had as part of their display.
These ladies set up a quilting spot in the motel's lobby, and they actually quilted while chatting with passersby. Note the rocking chair and the delightful old Singer Sewing Machine. (I learned to sew on a treadle just like this one.)
There's Blue in the quilt hanging in the background.
The sign reads:
"Celestial Dream
This was my first applique project. I was a new quilter and new to applique as well. I first saw this quilt pattern made by Grace North at the Tree City's first quilt show, and I fell in love with it! The pattern is by Susan Powell. What I started in the 1990's, I finished recently, after many of life's ups and downs."

Hi Sally, We both shared quilts for our posts today. I never get tired of looking at the beautiful quilts talented women make (sometimes men). What a thrill to see them where you stayed for your grandson's graduation.
I have to go to the town gardens today to weed and plant flowers. It is hard work but worth the effort.

Quilts are always interesting, because to me they speak of the past. The one with the sunflower is my favorite:)
My grandmother, mother, and mother-in-law all made quilts....but none of my generation in the family quilts.

I am a quilt junky, Sally! Love these.
I had wanted to participate in Blue Monday, but something came up. The workmen aren't here today, but a blogging friend wants to meet up in St. Augustine (where I don't have internet) so I'm hurrying down there.
We have a big mess here, but hopefully it will be better soon. Trying to stay positive.

What a nice story behind the two blue ribbon winner's quilt! It really is beautiful. I worked on a very large embroidered sampler right after I had my first daughter up until after I had my second. It has so much sentimental value to me.
When we looked for a 2nd home, I told my husband I wanted something big and roomy for family and friends to visit. He told me I wouldn't like cleaning it and I guess he hit the nail on the head! Actually it's just the spring cleaning and it's a must to keep the clutter down.

It was so nice to see you...and then I remembered TODAY is Blue Monday so I just joined in...a bit late.
Your post is amazing. I absolutely love those quilts. There was sooo much blue. I cannot even imagine that winning quilt was that lady's first applique. She went all out with it. It definitely deserved to win. I hope she has continued with many more quilts.
