Blue Monday - Fats Domino

The first time I remember hearing the expression "Blue Monday" was around l958. It was a wildly popular rock and roll song sung by Fats Domino. Ah, we had REAL music then! The lyrics aren't the greatest; I'll give you that. I've copied them here so that you can sing along.

However the song, as we kids used to say, "has a good beat to dance to." That was all that mattered in the 50s--being able to dance to the beat. As Kathy reminds me, we used to stroll to it. Take time to enjoy some good music.

Blue Monday how I hate Blue Monday
Got to work like a slave all day
Here come Tuesday, oh hard Tuesday
I'm so tired got no time to play

Here come Wednesday, I'm beat to my socks
My gal calls, got to tell her that I'm out
'Cause Thursday is a hard workin' day
And Friday I get my pay

Saturday mornin', oh Saturday mornin'
All my tiredness has gone away
Got my money and my honey
And I'm out on the stand to play

Sunday mornin' my head is bad
But it's worth it for the time that I had
But I've got to get my rest
'Cause Monday is a mess

To answer Diane, yep, Fats Domino is singing and living in New Orleans.

Thank you for sharing. My parents group up in the 50's as well which means I grew up listening to a lot of the music but i never heard this one.

Hi Sally,
This is a great post for a rainy Monday!
We were at Jazz Fest in NOLA a couple of years ago. Fats Domino was scheduled to appear, but health problems prevented it at the last minute!
Do you know if he is still living? I may have to research that.

I just love the music from the 50's and 60's. I used to watch American Band Stand. I sometimes say to people, "it had a good beat, but you can't really dance to it" and they hav NO IDEA what I am talking about.

take care,
Dawn

Morning sweetness Diva Sally! I love that song. Now mind you I was only a small and I mean "small and young" child at the time! lol But I have always loved music and old Fats piano playing! Didn't he disappear for a time after Katrina and then was found just fine? He lives in New Orleans. I used to love the show "Happy Days" and when Richie found a cute girlfriend he would start to sing this song! Thanks for the memories. Now who was it that said that? Was it Bob Hope? I'm full of useless knowledge!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Oh, I forgot to say, got too carried away with ole Fats, that there were too many folks looking on and oohing and ahing so I was embarrassed to say,"excuse me please, I want to try this out!" And if the drying part hadn't worked, I might have walked out with wet bottomed pants!! lol
Continue to be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)

Yes, the music was decent back then, not like the nasty stuff they have to hear these days. I used to sell it at Wal-Mart.
