~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Have you ever regretted a choice you made? When we were building our house, I selected black granite for our kitchen counter tops and instead of a tile backsplash, I had the granite go all the way up--lots of black. I also chose dark cabinets. Therefore, my beautiful kitchen is quite dark, and I feel I must have some pops of bright color to break up all that dark. My solution is pictured below. Notice, please the very large, Blue pitcher on top of the refrigerator.
In addition to my love of Blue, I love lemons, and when I spotted this pitcher (in a furniture store!), I took a deep breath and without much hesitation, spent too much money for it. I do not regret this purchase, though. The Blue is a shaded cobalt Blue and has movement to it.
Lemons are repeated in the wire bike basket on top of the cabinet. Here's a shot of the bike basket of faux lemons and oranges.
Recently, Johnny broke the top of the large canister. I thought that it'd be easy to replace, and we returned to the store where we purchased the first set. They had none. Since then, I've shopped and shopped--both in local stores and online. (sigh) I've discovered that ceramic canisters are no longer so easy (or cheap) to find.
I finally purchased this set. It's called Villeroy and Boch French Garden Charm Canisters. I like the fruit in 3-D on the tops. One canister pictures lemons that tie in with my Blue lemon pitcher and the bike basket of lemons. The middle canister shows a Blue plum. I also collect apples, so the large canister ties into my home decor.
Here's what it looks like now.
Do you use decorative canisters on your countertops?
Happy Blue Monday!
Since I stayed up to help the Cowboys, I am going to get my comment in first. I used to have canisters on my counter, but no more. I still have the, but not enough room on my counter. I like both of your sets. You may think your kitchen is dark, but truly looks beautiful to me. If I were younger, I would do some remodeling. However, just gonna let the kids worry with it.
Hi Sally! Yes I do have canisters on my kitchen counter and of course, they are Polish pottery. I love your Villeroy and Boch canisters. They carry a matching dinnerware too that I would love to own. I also really like your pretty pitcher...Christine
Sorry to hear about ceramic canisters Sally.
I like the kinda blue fade shadow in there.
The yellow of lemons is a nice complementary color to blue - I love this contrast.
Yes, I use decorative containers for storage of pens, brushes, etc. in the studio and in the kitchen with lots of tea, brekkies for the cat, cookies ...
If cherished things break, that's sad.
Thanks for hosting and happy blue Monday :-)
Hi Sally
No canisters here because on a good day (maybe once or twice a year!!!) we have minimalist look! But I reckon we have a very similar granite bench top except all our cupboards and splash backs are cream...
I am admiring your fridge with the ice maker and water filter - I have always fancied one of these.
Thanks for hosting Wrenx
I was just having cold water with lemons so it's really nice to see lots of lemons here in your page, too! :)
Oh Sally you have a lovely kitchen with all the lovely pieces that make your black granite pop! Wow! That pitcher is gorgeous and your canisters are so pretty. I have the old Princess House orchard medley canister set. When my hubby the top on the largest one I turned it into a holder for all the large utensils. Now the company has all the stainless stuff! But I also have the Vintage Garden canister set and it has the more pastel colors and I own all the tea pot pieces and plates etc. I know sometime we spend way too much on our treasures but your black granite makes all your pieces shine! Happy Blue Monday! Hugs Anne
I love your kitchen, both sets of canisters, and that wonderful pitcher and other accoutrements .
No, I don't use canisters, but if I did, that Villeroy and Boch set would work in my kitchen, too, particularly with the green lattice on the sides. That would match the wallpaper in the adjoining rooms.
Hope things are well there. I had a nasty fall and look like a Smurf, but am doing much better. PTL
xo,
Sheila
Good morning Sally. Oops, it is almost noon. We have had a crazy Monday so far.
Your canisters are just perfect. I love the fruit handles so much. Mine have rooster handles. I have always used canisters and couldn't do without them. The pitcher and the lemon accent is also very pretty. I admired the pitcher when we visited you. You know admire your beautiful home so much.
Happy Blue Monday my dear friend.
Love, Jeanne
I don't have decorative cannisters, but do use some old blue canning jars I've had for 45 years for rice, etc. I always admired neat ones like yours, though. Maybe someday I'll buy some! Sally
Sally, let's find some shade and fill that pitcher.
That's a beautiful pitcher. That colour of wood is beautiful with black granite, but I take what you mean about being a bit dark. Your solution, though, is perfect.
My biggest regret was having white(yikes!!!!) flooring with light blue diamonds in a pattern. It was only because it's a very small kitchen with wood cabinetry and half way up the wall paneling which hubby(a wood purist) refused to let me paint to lighten it up. I love how your pieces brighten up the granite!
I also picked black granite, mine has blue "butterfly wing" flecks like a bank I used to see in Houston and loved. In practice I don't like it though because it shows dirt terribly as a dull film, so I have to use the granite polish on it to make it shine. My cabinets are also dark, but I do have a blue and white tile backsplash, I could feature it sometime. Your pitcher is lovely, and the fruit canisters look great with it.
I like the black granite - it makes the jars and stuff stand out. My wife wants to redo our kitchen in granite but with a kid in college it needs to wait.
The blue pitcher with the lemons is just beautiful. Blue and yellow is my favorite combination. The pitcher will bring you joy for many years to come.
So sorry I am late linking up, Sally. I went to bed early (I am still trying to shake a cold) and had to watch the baby very early today.
I think your kitchen looks pretty! Your pitcher and canisters stand out beautifully with the dark granite background.
