Blogland Visit

I visited in blogland yesterday and read a post that haunts me still. Although I almost always leave a comment, I did not this time because this was an emotional post, and I didn't yet "know" Blogger. I didn't want to intrude.

It seems a friend told Blogger that a mutual acquaintance (Negative Nosy) remarked about time wasted blogging. Blogger "sure must have a lot of time on his/her hands."

Of course, this bothered Blogger. No one wants to be judged--especially negatively. Blogger went on to explain about time used in the day-to-day schedule, and even gave excuses about lack of television viewing and not having much time for reading.

Blogger went so far as to think about taking a break from blogging to "keep [my] blogging time under control."

Many of Blogger's friends left comments with soothing words of wisdom. The benefits of blogging were listed. Blogger was encouraged to "Keep on!" and to "Ignore such comments."

I have a different take on the issue. I think that the friend who told Blogger what Negative Nosy said was out of line! Who needs a friend who will tell you what a Negative Nosy says? In fact, IS this a friend at all? Why didn't "Friend" straighten out Negative Nosy? Tell me your thoughts.

This one strikes a chord since I recently had a similar experience... I told my friend that blogging is a medium and how you choose to use it (or abuse it) is up to the writer (and reader). So, I tried to call her on her perceptions of blogging, but I didn't call her on her rudeness.

However, I also realized that this last comment was simply the latest in a long line of snide comments through the years and that maybe it was time to put more distance between myself and my "friend."

I thought of that quote about surrounding ourselves with people who build us up, not tear us down...

I totally agree with you Sally. That is not a friend at all. Why would anyone care why someone blogs any way? I hope this blogger doesn't give up blogging or makes any more excuses for doing something she obviously enjoys.

I saw that post myself and I didn't even think of it with your take. Come to think of it you are right. That is no friend at all. We have too many Negative Nosy people in this world!

take care,
Dawn

This should be fun and you should enjoy talking to others. If they don't want to post fora few days , jut go around and meet new people, it is a big world out there. Kathy

Hmm...I agree it wasn't a good choice but to cut a friendship off due to it I don't see the point. If we all get honest, we all make mistakes in friendship and don't always build up -- even if we try hard.

But...the whole "how does she have time for that" -- girls, I am so TIRED of hearing it :) I can't tell you how many friends (and I know they don't mean harm) have ask me that!!!!

Funny how every one has an opinion on other peoples business. I too have had people (in real life) comment about my finding time to blog in my very busy life. We all have hobbies. We all make choices.
Alot of times people think it is their responsbility to "speak the truth in love" and they abuse that phrase - twisting it into gossip or jealousy induced picking.
Good observations from your self and other commenters.

I agree with you. As friends, we should be building each other up, not tearing each other down.

I probably (DO!) spend to much time blogging as well but the only time I'll rethink it is if my husband or kids say something about it. Otherwise, it's nobody else's concern.

I too have had persons say they dont know where i find the time to blog, but those are the ones who spend hours on the phone and in the malls, i have nothing against that, it boils down to choices.

Hmmm... I honestly have to say that I would have told my friend about Negative Nosy's comments, but I would have also BLASTED Negative Nosy for said comments!

I would have sent a note back to Negative Nosy myself about that one. I think it's completely inappropriate for someone else to make negative comments about why someone blogs and their time spent doing it. Everyone has a choice. And criticizing someone for their choice in an unfriendly way is completely uncalled for.
