Clipped Becomes Pierced

Diane, my friend from A Picture Is Worth 1,000 Words hosts a meme called Second Time Around Tuesday. If you have something to share, join in by clicking on her link.

I showed you these clip-on earrings along with the matching pin last January, and mentioned that my fifteen-year-old granddaughter, Jenna, loves to rummage through my jewelry box and try things on. Elizabeth commented that I should convert the earrings into pierced and give them to Jenna.

I goggled "beads" and found this lovely shop close by--All About Beads & Crystals. I loved looking through their web site. I phoned Jenna and made a date for her, Johnny, and me. Of course, I took my camera along, and fortunately, Sara (the young lady working) didn't mind my taking pictures. Look how gorgeous she is--no wonder she doesn't mind!

She got right to work, snipped off the backs, got out some glue and the findings--pieces for the new backs.

Within a couple of minutes, she was finished! Here's a shot with the pin.

Of course, I gave Jenna the matching pin. She was so appreciative. It's amazing how easy it is to please someone we love. We went to Chili's afterwards for dinner. Thank you, Elizabeth for the wonderful suggestion! It cost 25¢.

What a nice present for Jenna! A few years ago, I did the same thing with some earrings I found in my grandmother's jewelry box. You're making me want to get them out now and maybe become a Vintage Thingies Thursday post one week.

First of all, you DO have a beautiful granddaughter! Secondly, I would never have thought you could turn clip-on earrings into pierced ones, particularly for such a low price! I bet she was thrilled! Hmmm...makes me want to rummage through some of my things!

Hey, that savage chicken in your sidebar is unkind! (Maybe that is why some of my friends haven't read 'me' yet!) Lovely fun trip to make your earring. I love the beautiful young lady engrossed in her work in the shop!

PS from Eleanor. Forgive me my bad blog manners - you had to discover your Award as a Serious Scribbler and I did not do you the courtesy of letting you know. Been under serious pressure during the last week and never got to all the Prize winners. Then I couldn't remember whom I had contacted and I still needed to visit!

what a wonderful idea and more so when you can watch them being transformed - Judith

Hi Sally...I wonder how much vintage jewelry just sits forgotten in boxes because people don't realize it can be transformed? I learned something today...Thank you, ;-) Bo

Hi Sal, me again. You asked about the slide. I think just go to my blog, click on the make your own tab, that should take you to the web site. You will have to register, then there are lots of frames to choose from, sizes, colors, etc. Then just find where it says browse and upload your awards from where ever you save them, type the text you want and hit save. You will have to send it to your blog the first time, but after that, when you hit save , it will automatically upload to your blog. Now this is how I do it, there may be another way. If you have any questions, let me know. Cause this may not make sense to you.LOL

Hugs,
Chris

How pretty, Sally ... and what a great idea. I've never thought about having clip-ons converted. I'm going to raid my box of old jewelry and see if I have anything worthy of converting to pierced.

Great post!

I love this kind of story. I guess I like it because it is true. I know that you have a special interest in Christian fiction. I read a little fiction--but not too much. Your story is true and heart warming.
Thanks for posting this.

We also have a fabulous bead store here in Ottawa. It's called Sassy Bead Co. When Brittany was young we would make special trips and come out with some very cool jewels. It was even more special because we made them. It's nice to see a beautiful smiling face that appreciates her grandparents so much.
BTW You did see Sheba in my Monday post. I put her little face out there because I wanted everyone to say hi. Cats on Tuesday is usually viewed by the cat blogging community. It was nice to see your comment Sally. Sheba is very quiet today...they say they do that before giving birth. She has a vet appointment tomorrow. I'm hoping she's ok

Hi Smiling Sally...thank you for visiting me over on Peek-A-Boo Street! It's always nice to hear from new folks. I'm new to your blog but I'm assuming that the blonde girl is your grandaugter, Jenna. I think that she is much prettier than Sara the retailer. In my opinion. =)

Sally, I had no idea that you could change clip-on earrings to ones for pierced ears. That's neat to know--since I have a ton of my mother's clip ons!!!!

Your granddaughter is so pretty. That was nice of you to give her that set..

What a great post.
Thanks.
Hugs,
Betsy

They are cute! My oldest daughter loves wearing clip ons but is terrified of getting her ears pierced. I really love those retro flowers.

WOW! I didn't think it would be that inexpensive! I'm thinkin' that if Jenna ever gets tired of them I should get them!
I'm so glad you followed through and told everyone about it. We all have the clip or screw-on earrings that never get worn and now people will see how easy it is to convert them!

Unknown said...

You can do this w/ cuff links, too, but stronger pliers to cut off the posts might be needed.
