I Have A Problem

Do you see my problem? Look closely.

Here's another shot, taken at night, with the lamp turned on. See the problem now?

I'll turn the shade around so the problem is right in front. Yes, it's a hole in my lampshade! I have no idea how it got there. One day I noticed it. I've had two of these lamps forever. So, I set out to replace the shades. It seems to be an awkward size because I can find larger shades, and I can find smaller ones, but none that quite look right.

After looking for months--yes, months--I stumbled upon a solution. New lamps! I found two of these at Kirkland's on sale for $12.99 each.

Now my problem is, what do I do with the old lamps? Just toss them? Save the seashells? Any creative ideas, Blogland?

First, I love your new lamps. Kirklands is the first place I head to when I need something for the house. I thinking I would try to recover the old lampshade.:)

Morning Sally,

I absolutely LOVE your new lamps. Kirkland's has great stuff!!!

Now about the old lamps....if you still really love them stick them in the garage and continue looking for the right shades....they are out there somewhere. If you are tired of them put them in a yard sale.

I don't believe that price! Where is this Kirkland's? I love those new lamps, but I like the old ones, too. Definitely keep the shells.

I'm jealous, all of our Kirkland's have gone out of business around here! I like your new lamps though....nice buy too!

Well, the new lamps are really pretty but I could NEVER get rid of the old ones! I'm terrible like that lol I do love the seashells in the old one. Maybe you could save them. Happy Wednesday Sally ♥

Great lamps! But since you live in Florida {beachy place :) }, I would certainly hold onto the old ones awhile, in hopes of finding a shade. We had one left in our lake house by the previous owners and I ended up donating it to a thrift store years ago. We saw another one not long ago, and they are quite pricey! Just a thought and my two cents worth! LOL!

Your new ones are pretty and what a great price! :) ~hugs, Rhonda

I love the new lamps! I am such a trash to treasure girl...how about randomly gluing ( use a glue called E6000) to randomly (like over the hole in the shade)...glue some seashells!
I don't know if you have a Lowes where you are but they have Alot of shades...just maybe you will find one there!
Oh...and IF you do throw them out...lol...what day is your trash pick-up! ;)

Cute new lamp! Now if you were me, I'd just stuff them under my crawlspace, 'cuz that's how I roll. That poor crawlspace is going to be a treasure trove of a burden for Jacob some day.....LOL! ~ Robyn

I have the same shell lamp and had to replace the shade several years ago. I did not get the same size of shade. The new one is wider, but I really like it. I wouldn't stick to the same size. If you would like, I will send you a picture of mine now.

Donate the lamps. Less is more!
Kirkland is the bomb! I can always find something there that I didn't even know that I needed;)

I would try and recover the shade. The new lamps are great, but I like the old one too.

I would hang on to it, but one day I'd be in a tossing mood and it would most likely end up being tossed. Mainly because I would not ever cover the shade!

That's too bad that you couldn't fix the old ones but I love your new lamps. I say just donate them and maybe someone can use them in a place that no one will see the hole in the shade.

GM Sally..now girl I wished I was closer to you ...I would redo those shades for you thats my buisness making lamp shades and tea cup lamps..In fact I want to give one away for my 100 post if I ever get there ha ha!! Hey I'm working on it...
Now if you want to redo those shades tear off old fabric from the frame...wrap the frame with bias tape and then you can either sew ( which I do ) or use Tacky glue and glue new fabric on it and then add trim around the top and bottom to cover up the raw fabric edge...You can add beads trim also the same way...hope this helps you Sally...but I would keep the lamps to pretty to just toss them...how pretty those would be with rose petals in them...hugs and smiles Gloria

Not a clue! We recently sprayed painted a lamp and put a new shade on it. It looks great. The old lamp is out in the garage. I tried to give it to some relatives and my wife said, "I plan to cover that old lamp shade and use it again." Who knew?

Ruthie said...

Hmmmm - shouldn't ask me, I would save the old ones till could find shades. I like the lamps. The new ones are also pretty.

The new lamp is cute. I like its height too. Don't get rid of the old one yet-you might be able to find a new shade for it.

If you are ready to part with your old lamps, take them to Goodwill so someone else can get a bargain and enjoy them. Sally

I'm sure someone would be happy to take the old lamp off your hands. Although coming up with another way to maybe hold on to the sea shells for another project might be fun too. You have so many pretty dishes that you fill with glass beads that maye seashells would look nice too?

Love the new lamps and definitely keep the sea shells. (I used to have a lamp just like that in my bedroom.)

I love Kirkland's! Unfortunately they closed the one here.

Some craft stores have kits to make lampshades, but I don't know if they'd have the size you need.

Keep them.. and look for new lampshades.. that's what I would do...
By the way the new one looks great too!

I usually end up hanging on to things, thinking I'll find a use for them, then about 2 years later my husband gets tired of them in the garage and gives them away. Love the new ones.

Hi Sally
Love the new lamps and they were a great buy too. Booo what happened to the lampshades. My suggestions is just what I'm reading in other posts and that is to hold on to them and you just might find replacements one day. They are really nice too and I wouldnt get rid of them.
Hope you've had a nice day

Lovely new lamp. I have one similar but it has lion faces on it.

Your old lamp is so unique... I couldn't get rid of it.

Love the new lamps, Sally!

Do you still love the lamps? If so, keep looking for the right shades... or maybe "Slipcover" those shades. I have seen some lamp slipcovers before, and they are cute. Find a nice toile or some other fabric you love, and maybe that would cover up the problem! :-)

BTW, I love your new blog header. Meant to tell you that, but I'm not sure I did.

XO,

Sheila :-)
