Diane is influencing me! Last week, we spotted a thrift shop and decided to stop in. It was clean and well organized. When I inquired, I found out that they had just opened this past June. I'm sure I'll return.

I found these cute birds for only $1.50 each, but on that day, they were 50% off. I paid $1.50 for both of them! They're flawless, and I'm glad that they've nested here.

Christimas in July

Diane is a Thrift Shop Queen; she comes up with the best finds. I've never been one who shops at thrift stores, but Blogland has educated me. I stopped in one place and then another. Sometimes I find something; sometimes, there is nothing that interests me, but it's always an adventure. I'm beginning to understand what Diane has been talking about!

The item I'm sharing today was purchased from a thrift store in July when all Christmas items were 50% off! This set of four cute coasters in their holder was 75¢. They look unused. All are more red than the picture shows.








I'm looking forward to using them in December! With all of my things packed up and sitting in the warehouse, this may turn out to be the center of my Christmas decor!

A Craftsman at Work

I posted about how the movers damaged my china cabinet and promised to show you how the repair turned out. The first two pictures show the terrible gouge that the movers made.

A close-up allows you to get the full impact.

We called this repairman. After visiting once to access the situation, take pictures and measurements, he returned with this wooden plug that he had fashioned. 


He tried the fit, and then went to his truck to sand it down a bit more.


Here he is shown marking lines on the piece.

Next, he used a product called Wood Quick which begins as a putty-type substance and after working it until it begins to harden, he blends it in with the wood piece and attaches it to the china cabinet. Once again, he sands it.


He trims the piece.



 Next, he stained with four different stains and then a coat of varnish. Here's the finished job.


And, a closer look. 

We found him by calling a furniture company that deals with Drexel, the manufacturer of the china cabinet.  We are quite pleased to have this repair so nicely done.

I went bargain hunting at the local GW store. I will not go back there again because frankly, the store had a bad odor. However, I found this delightful blue "wooden" shoe. It's ceramic, so although it was quite dirty, it holds no odor.


The true color is the last picture. It closely corresponds with the blue and white vase.



I cleaned it up, and now will find a faux piece of greenery to complete the look.

1. With all the books you've read which one is your absolute favorite, besides the Bible?

I don't have an absolute favorite, but I have many favorites. I'll tell you my favorite author is Angela Hunt. She writes Christian fiction, and she's written 115 titles. Her motto is "Expect the Unexpected." I love her recent triology, the Fairlawn series. I just finished reading the third, She's in a Better Place. I'll have the review up on my book blog soon, and it will be published in March. I put these links here for you to use if you're interested in getting some GOOD books to read.









2. What made you start a blog?

I had two friends who nagged me to begin a blog. I always left comments on their blogs. I never thought that anyone would read anything I had to say, so I didn't see the need. My son, however, is the one who really got me started. He said that it's be a keepsake for the children. Since I love my grandchildren, I look at blogging almost like a scrapbook/journal. Of course, now I'm addicted!

3. What is your biggest regret?

I'm sorry. I don't want you to think I'm refusing to answer, but I honestly have no regrets. Nope, not one.

4. What is your greatest accomplishment?

Aside from my two wonderful children, my greatest accomplishment is returning to school 28 years after graduating from high school. I worked full time and went to college full time. I graduated in 4 years with a GPA of 4.0.

5. Where or what have you always wanted to visit or do that you haven't done yet?

I've always wanted to see the Grand Canyon.

Trash to Treasure - What to Do with Snow

A Special Note!
Poor Mr. Linky got a bunch of undeserved negative comments yesterday at my Blue Monday post, and he didn't earn any of them. Truthfully, I've never had any problems with him.

My modem began to give me trouble several days ago. It would go in and out--on and off. I had so much stress trying to keep up with my blogging visits and comments. I would be in the middle of a comment, and my internet service would cut off.

I called my internet server on Saturday, and they diagnosed it as a Major Problem outside my home. They got it fixed some time after 2:30 Monday. For most of the weekend and into Monday, I was without computer service. I had NO WAY to put up Mr. Linky until Monday afternoon! I love Mr. Linky, and if I weren't already married ....
