Farm Stores Egg Nog

Shh! Some people in my family are addicted to a special egg nog that can only be found in one place.

Years ago, it was easy to satisfy their longings, but ever since 2001, when most of the Farm Stores closed, egg nog has been quite difficult to buy. Not just any egg nog will do, you see. It must be Farm Stores brand.

We've recently found a supplier.

Farm Stores are a chain of little convenience stores that started in Miami, Florida. A customer would simply drive through either side of the store; never leaving their car.

This sign has been a beacon to many.

They sell a small variety of essentials, all reasonably priced.

We called in advance and a sweet guy named Ken promised to save two bottles for us. As we pull in and introduce ourselves, making our request known, Ken steps into the refrigerated back room to find the liquid gold.

This plain bag contains two half gallons of the source of smiles for my daughter and son-in-law. Oops! I gave away the identities of the addicts, but you won't tell, will you?

Ken tells us that folks from as far away as Georgia come for this elixir. Note: it contains no alcohol; it needs none.

Don't ever taste this stuff, or you too will become addicted. There is no comparison with any other brand!

*Update: as of Dec., 2015, It's still sold in the Tampa area.

Love on Wednesdays

Suzanne at Colorado Lady is hosting a meme for this month, and she's calling it Love on Wednesdays in February.

Today is the final day, and I'm sipping coffee while being showered with Bloggy Love!

As I enjoy my coffee, I must stop to share a picture of my cup, presented to me in 1994 by one of my high school seniors. During that year, she decided to become a teacher. Coffee just tastes better sipping from this mug. Here's a picture.

Eleanor from Thatchwick Cottage has deemed me worthy of the Superior Scribbler Award. Eleanor teaches at the University of South Africa and lives close to the Austen Roberts' Nature Reserve and Bird Sanctuary. Her blog is fascinating. Pay her a visit as soon as you can grab a minute.

To commemorate, celebrate, and generally share Bloggy Love, the originator, scholastic-scribe created this award. Here are the rules. Each Superior Scribbler must:
  • pass The Award on to 5 most-deserving Bloggy Friends.
  • link to the author and the name of the blog from whom he/she has received The Award.
  • display The Award on his/her blog, and link to This Post, which explains The Award.
  • visit this post and add his/her name to the Mr. Linky List. That way, we'll be able to keep up-to-date on everyone who receives This Prestigious Honor!
  • post these rules on his/her blog.
Thank you Eleanor for recognizing that my playful scribble is meant to share Bloggy Love!

Pink Saturday - These Are Just Two of My Favorite Things

Beverly at How Sweet the Sound hosts Pink Saturday. Stop by her place to see the many other pink items people are sharing. If you care to join up, click on her sidebar button that looks just like this one on the left. You'll find all the instructions.

I'm keeping it short and sweet today.

A cup of coffee from this place tastes better than coffee from THAT place. Could it be the pink on the cup?

Mmm, I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream from the pink place, of course!

What flavor? Okay, you can get strawberry if you'd like pink ice cream. I'll take my favorite: pralines and cream.

Happy Pink Saturday!

$ave $ome Money; Drink Tap Water

If you are trying to watch your spending, here's some good advice: don't buy bottled water; drink tap water!

In an article from this Sunday, August 10, The Miami Herald, Sharon Harvey Rosenberg reports, "Bottled water does not taste better, according to blind taste tests, and tap water must meet stricter safety measures." She cites studies from the Center for a New American Dream, a nonprofit consumer group in Maryland. They state that 40 percent of bottled water sold is just tap water!

For those who live in areas where they feel they need extra filtering, there are filtering systems that would still prove far less costly than buying bottled water.

Rosenberg adds, "A gallon of water from your kitchen sink costs about $.002, which is less than one cent, based on the national average. In contrast, you'll pay on average about $1.50 for a 20-ounce container of bottled water."

If you are still doubtful, try calling your local water center and ask for a safety report.

Note: Cold water tastes best. Keep cold water on hand in the refrigerator in reusable, nontoxic bottles.

How often do you buy/drink bottled water?
  • daily
  • weekly
  • every now and again
  • never

Pink Smoothie

This treat looks yummy and is healthy for the kiddies too! Thanks to Beauty from Chaos for the easy summer recipe!

Smoothie Treat
Take about 11 large frozen or fresh strawberries; place in blender.

Add one cup of milk or o.j. Add 6 ice cubes. Blend until all smooth.

For a variation add yogurt instead of milk, honey, bananas, or blueberries.
