My Holiday Room

The Tablescaper is hosting a meme about storage called, “Where do you keep it all?” I don't have the beautiful sets of china that many bloggers have, but I do have a good supply of holiday decorations.

I used to store those items in our attic, but it became a big deal to lug them up and down. Later on, we stored them in the guest room closets.

When we moved into our new home this past December, for the first time, we had the luxury of too much space! I decided to use one of the extra bedrooms to store all of our holiday decorations. I've named this room The Holiday Room.

Johnny and I went to Ikea and bought these three storage units. They measure 7'9"H x 9'8"W. Some folks use them as closets. The insides can be configured any way a person might choose. We purchased them in January, which was a perfect time because Ikea was offering FREE installation with the purchase! (That saved quite a BIG headache!)

The color of the storage units is a dark gray.

You can see St. Patrick's Day, Easter, Autumn, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations at a glance in this last unit.

After next Christmas, I plan to put away many of our items unpackaged. I prefer having items on view on the shelves rather than in the plastic bins.

The first unit contains our Christmas tree, so we did not put so many shelves in it. Look, there's even some room for other items! Our Holiday Room makes storage so much easier.

See you for Blue Monday!

Sally this is a fabulous way to be able to store out-of-season decorations! Everything is organized and available at a glance. How wonderful that you have the space now to do this. It gets harder and harder to root around in the attic or crawl spaces for our decorations.

I dream of the day when we have enough room to store these items somewhere other than the garage attic. What a very wonderful solution you have found for storage.

Perfect! Isn't IKEA a cool place? Visited one while in CA earlier this year.

Sally that looks so good and neat! I love units with doors on them. All my holiday items are in the basement and it's quite the chore up and down those stairs. My dish obsession takes so much of my extra space though and I can't let go of my dishes! Love Ikea!

Hi Sally, this storage idea is awesome. I wish I could do that but we don't have extra space. It looks great and now so handy. I am not that organized when it comes to things out of sight. Beverly IS!!! HA! We have a great attic over the garage with stand up walking room. Bill put the floor in when we moved here. However, we have to pull down a ladder to get up there. Sigh!

Congratulations to your grandson that graduated. Now, if we can get them through college. Bryce will be going to Jr. College where Bill used to teach. He could be an awesome student but he is lazy. He did end up with a 3. in HS. He is a very sweet guy and we were so happy to attend his graduation.

Have a happy day.
Hugs, Jeanne

PS: We have many errands to attend too and I am going to the Dr. this AM. I hope we can tald another day.

Sally,
This is wonderful! I have to climb in and out of some attic crawl space for my Christmas/holiday decor so this was a brilliant idea you had creating this storage space! So organized and easy to reach...love it! :-)

Ikea and I go way back... back to when things were even so much more inexpensive there! Love me some Ikea! The first thing I noticed was the gray of the cabinets. Thus a thoughts has been planted in my head - I need some gray doors too! They are perfect!

Sally, I like your idea of a 'holiday room' We have a very small home so my hubby added an extra shelf to each closet. I keep most of my things in the guest closet. I really like the way you have organized yours. We keep our Christmas tree in the rafters of our garage to give us more space.
