Outdoor Wednesday - Cute Benches

Susan at A Southern Daydreamer is the gracious hostess for Outdoor Wednesday. Participants post pictures of anything that they might find outdoors. Come join in.

Several bloggers have expressed a curiosity about what my new apartment looks like, so I thought I'd use Outdoor Wednesday to show you.

I showed you our back entrance last Wednesday. Today, I'm showing you the front door to our apartment. It's in a rather dark hallway. This picture was taken during the morning, and notice that the lights are on.

Notice the sunshine peeking through the end of the hallway. See the cute brown benches beside each apartment door?

Let's take a closer look. They're made of durable plastic.

Look, they open, and are lined with black plastic.

This is where we place our trash. It's picked up three times a week. They call this "valet trash." We are billed for it separately on a monthly basis.

I've never heard of this before. What do you think?

PS A couple of people commented about the smell. There is NO bad odor in my apartment hallway. It's clean and both ends are open, allowing the air to flow freely.

Diane asks if we separate trash. No, these benches hold one bag of trash, and that is all that will be picked up. Unbagged trash is not collected. There is a huge recycle unit on the complex where we can take paper to be recycled.

Hmmmm....a bench and a garbage can too... I wonder if you are going to smell garbage in the hallway?

I say it's wonderful to have trash pickup three times a week, but I think I have more trash than will fit in that little bench. LOL! Very intersting, Sally. You always come up with posts that stump me. LOL!

Love to you and Happy OW...

XO,

Sheila :-)

I've never seen a bench like that. I don't know if I'd sit on it knowing it has trash in it. I think I would have more trash than would fit in there, too! we have to take ours out about once a day -- but that's with five people here. You'll probably be fine with just the two of you. And it saves you (or your husband) from having to cart it out to the dumpster.

What a novel idea & so clever! Do you still have to separate it? ☺ Diane

I love this idea!!! those benches are a great idea for a garden or sunroom too!!! they are very cute

It is very convenient...and I do love that they don't look conventional.

Interesting idea.

I too wonder about the smell in the hallway. I love the benches for sure.

Yes, I've seen them before at apartment complexes. I agree on the smell in the hallway AND the critters that come to visit them. I think I would rather go to a dumpster across the parking lot than have the trash right by my door.

I have never seen these before, and think it is a great idea, thank you for sharing.

Morning girl...how's that unpacking coming along? A trash bench huh...I have never in all my life heard of such...but it is fantastic having trash picked up 3 times a WEEK!!!!! lol I first thought it was a bench where you make your company put their shoes before they come in! lol Have a great week girl!

That's a nifty little bench for trash, but as much trash as my family accumulates...it wouldn't work for us too well. Great idea, though!

That is just a brilliant idea! Thank you for your visit and I sorry I missed news of your move. It has taken me so long to get back on track after being overseas. I see Blue Monday has really taken off! You are a star and a great blessing to Bloggyworld with all your ideas and regular posts and comments!

Now, that is an interesting bench!! Never saw one. Neat post, Sally.

Sally... okay... you know I have to be honest... I think the whole bench trash thing is a little on the weird side... it works for a small family of 2 or 3...maybe... but more than that... eeewwwwww!

now... the bench... wouldn't that be great for a garden tool storage bench out in the garden?

thanks for sharing "the other side of Florida"... ;)

Never heard of this. Guess it is a good incentive to keep the trash down to 3 bags a week. Sally

I have been around a long time and seen a lot. However, I do not recall ever seeing trash stored in a bench inside an apartment.

Interesting - I have never seen a setup like that. Looks better than cans.

Well, I am impressed! Valet garbage, and right at your door. Pickup three times a week is probably what keeps it from smelling.

How NEAT!!! Valet garbage pickup!!! Impressive!

What will they come up with next? I think this is fabulous! You don't have to take the trash to the trash can, it is not cluttering up the hallway and it is nicely hidden away-no smell.

Happy Outdoor Wednesday Sally,
First I wanted to thank you for the Birthday wishes you left for my daughter Amy over at Barbara's......I know how hard it is to get around to everyone, and it was very kind to take the time to wish a girl you don't even know, who has lived already 11 months longer than than the 2 months the drs. gave her, Happy Birthday....it meant alot to Amy
Second I wanted to remind you or if you did not know to tell you about my 100th post give away posted under July 4th Pink Saturday post....it is open until 12 midnight Friday and I will post the winner with my July 11th Pink Saturday post.
It would be nice to have door trash pick up but it should be at the back door, not greeting you when you come to the door....do they furnish the bags for it....do you have to participate or can you take your own trash out........
I would think it would attract bugs........and I guess my family is trashy because my dh and I have lots of trash

I think those are clever! I can use something like that here when it's too hot! ;-)

How interesting. I'm amazed that there's not a problem with the odor. It's an interesting method of collection, though. Have a wonderful day. Blessings...Mary

I have never seen such a thing before Sally. We also make more trash than this would hold, but what a great idea, especially for anyone who finds it hard to carry the trash to the dumpster.

Thanks for the little tour. I like the trash thing. Whatever works!

What a clever idea!! I'd love to just open the door and throw the bag in the bench!!Sort of gives me an idea...especially since I'm the only one who has the foresight (and smell) to take out the garbage!!

That's amazing, Sally.... Sounds like a fancy-dancy complex to me. I've never heard of trash pick-up like that. But--once plastic bag of trash three times a week is probably enough --especially if you can recycle other items. We recycle ---so it's amazing how 'little' actual trash we have these days.

Thanks for sharing...I'm IMPRESSED.
Hugs,
Betsy

An interesting idea. Still not sure what I make of it. I don't think I'd sit on it but it is definitely looks nicer than a regular can.

What an idea! Get rid of trash in a "scenic" way! Somebody had on their thinking caps!

I like those little benches/trash units. I could use something like that!

Howdy Sally
The benches are a clever idea.
I like the way they look like plain ordinary benches :)
Hope all is going well .

This is new to me. A trash bench :-) It certainly looks nice to have them in hallways than trash cans all line up. I never would have thought they were that. I would have thought too that it might smell since it is in the hallway but i guess i thought wrong LoL

Now I know why you prefer the backdoor. The view there is much more nicer :-)

Well, isn't that an interesting idea? I would never have known it was a trash container if you hadn't shown us. Sure is more attractive than a big trash container. laurie

Hi Sally
thats very interesting..I'm not sure what to think about that. I'm not sure whether I'd like to do that or not. What if you have more garbage than what fits in that bench?
They have it worked out well if you don't even have odor.
thank you for sharing
have a lovely day

What a clever idea. Certainly an incentive to keep the trash accumulation down, and pick up three times a week would be great. I would love to find one of those benches for outdoor (patio) trash after BBQ's! Kathy

This is really cool. I like it.

Thanks for stopping by my blog and leaving a comment. :)
This is really pretty cool. My nephew lives in a complex and he has to "drive" his garbage to the dumpster.
I think this is a good idea! Seems very convenient to me.
