Pink Saturday - Mama's Dish

I want to take a minute to ask my fellow Bloggers to pray for those affected by Hurricane Ike. We don't yet know the extent of damages, but we do know that a great many people have been displaced. I know that God is good and that He hears the prayers of His people.

My mother gave me this week's offering many years ago. This dish was given to my mother by Aunt Betty, the second wife of my mom's Uncle Charlie. His first wife purchased it, and when she died, he later married Aunt Betty. Not immediately, you understand!

Now, Aunt Betty, like most of us ladies, wanted nothing of wife number one in the house, so Mama was lucky enough to get some goodies, and this beautiful pedestal bowl eventually got passed down to me. While Mama had it, she kept it in a china cabinet and never used it. It was "too precious," she said.

There are not many things I keep just to look at, and for years I have used it to for my fruit bowl. Money Saving Tip: I keep fake fruit mixed with real fruit in the bowl. That way, I can purchase small amounts of fruit, and it's eaten before it goes bad. No waste! Money saved!

As usual, I had a hard time photographing it. I took a shot on my white kitchen table. This gives you a true idea of the color.

Next, I tried to show the pedestal look of it from the side. This dark green tablecloth showed it best.



Finally, a dark blue towel was used underneath so that I could show you the design of the engravings on the dish.
