Pause at her Place to see Plenty of other Pretty Pink items that Precious Pink Participating People are Putting out for Presentation.Today, I want to show you another treasure that my mother left me. There are no markings on the back of this plate. I remember that Mama used it to serve cookies for company.
When I was about five years old, my mother placed some cookies on this plate, and allowed me to take it into the living room where some special ladies were visiting. She was going to follow with coffee.
I was so proud that she entrusted me with this task that I shook a bit. The plate tipped, and all the cookies began to slide off! I did exactly as I had been taught. Mama stepped around the corner of the room to see her daughter carefully picking up the cookies one by one and blowing off first the tops and then--because this was Special Company--the bottoms, before I placed each one back on the plate!
I keep this plate in my china cabinet on display. I don't think I've ever used it. And it seems that as time passes, I'm less reluctant to put it to any functional use; I prefer its aesthetic purpose.

That is a very precious piece and I can imagine you prefer not to use it. On the other hand I would be so tempted to use it because it IS so beautiful and I'd want to share that. It must make you think of the story everytime you look at it. Sweet.

Thanks for the compliment of my doll dress. Yes, I did make dresses for my daughter when she was little. I made dresses for my mother about that same time. My mother sewed for me when I was young and then when I learned how she just about quit sewing. I have a picture of me and her with dresses I made for both of us on Mother's Day back in the 60s. Maybe I'll feature that picture for Mother's Day.

This is a precious story!! I can just see your little hands carrying this beautiful plate with the cookies to your mom's guest...at least you did not drop the plate and break it!!! Blowing off the cookies is what I would do too..thanks for sharing this tale with us ..

I just love to read all the stories behind some of your treasures. Just like taking a walk back in time...so refreshing! That plate is so pretty AND sentimental...I don't think I'd "use" it, either. I'd be afraid something might happen to it, so I'd leave it safe and sound in my china cabinet.
