Blue Monday - Flight to Egypt

It's Blue Monday! To participate:

1. Post about something blue on your blog. It can be pretty, ugly, funny, old, or new as long as it's blue. Leave a link to this blog on your post.

2. Place the Blue Monday button on the top of your post so that people can easily spot it. Place another
Blue Monday button on the sidebar of your blog.

3. Return here and link in with Mr. Linky by leaving your name and the

It is a longer address so that people can find your post even later in the week--whenever they get a chance to visit. For those who just can't wait, Mr. Linky will be up after midnight!

Do NOT link in until after your post is up.

4. Visit other Blue participants by clicking on their links. Make someone's day; leave a comment.
I appreciate it when you take the time to leave a comment for me.

5. Check back later to make certain you visit all the Blue participants. (That's why the Permalink is so important.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
This is one of my most precious Christmas pieces. It's not very well made, and it's not the most attractive thing I own. It's been broken and repaired more times than I care to remember. But my mother made it especially for me in 1972. Notice the blue, her favorite color, and she knew that it was my favorite color too. I keep it on top of my little roll-top desk in my Living Room.
I used to hold my granddaughter on my lap when she was only nine months old, and let her touch the pieces while I named them over and over for her. Her mother couldn't believe that I allowed Lauren to touch each piece, but she only touched while she was in my lap. She never broke a thing. Lauren is now nineteen years old, and every year when I unpack these pieces, I remember my mother making this for me and those special times with Lauren.
Three years ago, I found this figurine of the flight into Egypt. I couldn't resist getting it. It's sitting on top of the chairside chest in my Family Room.
Hi Sally, what lovely figurines. What great memories also with your grand daughter. I bet one day she will be doing the same with her grand daughter and telling her the story.
Happy Blue Monday.
Great pieces! My Mom is way more lenient with her grandchildren and her decorations than she was with us - her own children. ~ Robyn
How lovely, and to think it's been broken and repaired so many times. I love it. I have some "not as memorable" pieces that have been broken. I pick them up, get the crazy glue, have a little "oh no" sigh and place it back on the shelf.
Nineteen years is a long time WOW
Love it
Sally both of your 'Flight to Egypt' pieces are beautiful. The one your mom made you is still lovely even if it has been repaired. Your memories of Lauren are priceless as is your mom's gift to you.
You have a soft heart Sally. So do I and today two of my grandsons are coming to visit along with my daughter and their new dog Tanner. Remember my daughter's dog that ran out in front of a car? Well now we get to meet Tanner the coon hound. LOL. We can't wait.
Happy Blue Monday Sally.
Hugs...Jeanne
The value of a piece is always determined by the artist. Some artists are prized by the world at large, others only by a select few, but to those few they could be Da Vinci or Michelangelo.
Happy Blue Monday, Sally.
Your pieces are lovely, and I understand the sentimental value. Your Lauren is a very special young lady. And, your mother must have thought you were quite a special lady, too.
Sally I love those pieces and Lauren has wonderful memories of times spent with you learning about these pieces. Thanks for sharing.
The Blue one your mother made is especially special.
Love your 'blue' Sally... The bluejay and the figurines are gorgeous. They don't make me feel blue though.
We're headed to Hendersonville, TN to check on George's elderly parents today. Have a great day.
Hi Sally,
I'm late getting my post up, but finally did!
I love your 'Flight to Egypt' pieces, but really enjoyed the story about your granddaughter! I know you cherish those memories! Your pieces not only remind you of Mary Joseph and Jesus, but the special times with your granddaughter. What can be better than that?
Have a great day,
Diane
Oh Sally, your piece is gorgeous ! I never put anything up high when my boys were little . I started teaching them not to touch when they first stared walking and they never touched and never broke anything.
